53 s10 swap... yea..another one
so i picked up a 53 chevy. needs some tlc but ill get there... had it half ripped apart and i moved the jackstands off the axle and to the back of the frame. as soon as i let it down the frame broke in half. hahah... good thing i had plane to do a swap. then my budy calls and tells me he found a sanded and painted s10 chassis on craigslist with drop spindle. new rearend, breaks and very clean.. i called the guy and got it for 250... good deal if i dont say so. but anyways. so far i have it ripped apart and have the cabe hanging from the rafters to squar up the frame. ill be posting pics just about everyday and ill put down everything i do. any info is great. thanks guys.

Looks good man, What are your plans as far as paint goes? Looks like a nice natural patina. I'm getting close to finishing my s10 swap. If you have any questions theres a few of us here doing the swap.

That would make a great patina!! Depending on what your plans are it might not take long for you to be able to drive her down the road. It took me about 4 months to get mine on the road. I put mine on bags and dropped in a 350 with a 3speed Saginaw. It turned out pretty good I think.
I'm standing in front of deciding on whether or not to open the hood when I drove it to a big cruise in that happened last sat. in Cleveland Tn |

Where does one come across so many vintage plates? I have a few in my garage for wall art. Of coarse, my vintage plates are from CA. I like your idea for the head liner. Maybe the door and kick panels too?

WOW! never seen a frame rotted in half before. great save and that collection of licence plates is amazing and what better use for old licence plates. are you going to make the door panels mirror images to each other? keep the pic's coming it looks like a cool project.

How did you get all those vintage tags? The cheapest i found them for is $8 a tag and i'm not spending $8 on a tag for my garage wall.

Re: 53 s10 swap... yea..another one
$100 for all those is a sweet deal! I pick mine up for $7-8 per plate. I usually do it as a souviner of the state I visited. Everyone who has seen my garage seems to keep there eyes open for me as well. My brother-in-law just called me today and told me he found bunch of old plates on a walk he took. Sweet score on both the p/u and plates!

Re: 53 s10 swap... yea..another one
Good thing you know someone who looks out for ya!
I think selling those matched pairs of plates would bring you alot more money than you paid. $15-$40 a pair isn't uncommon at swapmeets, since we can re-register vintage plates to use on old cars/trucks. Keep the singles, sell the pairs, give me the S 401 K plate for Samantha's bug....... I only need one, and that's kinda funny if you look at it. S(samantha's) 401 K Call me if you need help.
