Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
Well today I added some cross members to support some more weight under the center section. I then welded them in, and fit the center section to fit. Next, I cut my hitch release pin and used a die grinder to clearance the housing to allow the release pin to go up farther. I welded the handle back on, and walla! I have clearance over the frame rail and no need to cut and notch the frame rail. Then I placed the center section in and welded it up.
I then cut a piece to replace the rear cross member. I'll replace the last 2 stock cross members, and then start boxing the frame.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
I don't know yet. I've got it blocked in the level position. But, it won't matter because the mammoth air bags will hold it up just fine.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
On my dually that is an up and coming mod, that thing is going to get full air ride all the way around with a ride height controller, I want it to ride smooth as if it were riding on rails.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
you might as whell use the bottom of the hitch assembly as the top mounts of the bags it should hold just fine and you can hide the airlines only the exaust might be in the way , i see you allready have some boxsection welded in there to fill the gap for the hitch setup and it looks like it would place the bags pretty close to the leafsprings

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
Leaf springs, we dont need no leaf springs.
i have a hunch that Ryan has some bracketry to 4 link his truck and eliminate the current springs entirely and get them bags out wide enough to promote good stability. |

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
I got some more done yesterday. I removed the old rear cross member, welded in the new, and removed the rest of my tank cross members. I then welded up all the un used holes from the goose neck back. Next I'll replace the last OEM cross member and then remove the stock suspension.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
You could use a Ford master and Dodge slave, but there is a little bit of adapting that will go on. What exactly dont you like about the 1/4 turn master? Aftermarket 3rd gen use a bracket that bolts to the firewall.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
The 3rd gen still twist into the bracket. We've only had one truck have issues with the master cylinder popping out out of many. You can use a 94-97 ford f-250 and 350 master and line on a dodge slave and it'll work fine. The ford master bolts on to the firewall.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
It's going to go in between the goose neck hitch and the rear cross member. The 40 gal burb tank I have fits in there pretty good. I'll take pics of that when I get it back in there.
