Re: Chop Tops ???
Another problem with chopped tops is they leak if there not done right. My buddy had his 69 C10 chopped and it leaked like crazy.

Re: Chop Tops ???
Was that because it was chopped or because it also had the drip rail shaved?

Re: Chop Tops ???
because of the choptop, the drip rails were not shaved.

Re: Chop Tops ???
Classic Trucks magazine did one. Not real drastic. Looked OK but I don't think its necessary.

Re: Chop Tops ???
If you want to slam it, get an air bag setup. Then you can drop it in the weeds when you want and raise it and still have drivability.
As far as the chop, it can be done right, but it's not for me. It's your truck though, so do what you like! |

Re: Chop Tops ???
some trucks look ok with a chop, but 95% come out looking inproportional..
but if you like it then do it, just build a truck that makes you happy. but your not going to get too many guys on this site that favor a chopped top for these years of trucks

Re: Chop Tops ???
Well after being in Street Rod class i have grown to like the old led sleds. I think a 6" chop should do it. i am also going to take 2 beer kegs and turn them into my gas tank. As well, i just bought some 100 spoke 20's that i will media blast, prime and paint flat black. i am thinking of painting the truck flaat back with tented windows. There is plenty of head room in my truck so the chop will only bother me then i'm at a stop light. ha ha. Also, some one was talking about the roof leaking.. thats probible because they didnt fit the door to the cab, with the seal inplace. i'm sure everything will come out all right.

Re: Chop Tops ???
So it's started, these pics are from today 11/17/08. first is what the truck looked like after afew hours of work on Sat. 2nd pics is how it is setting as of 4:15pm. And last is what the fire wall looks like. the brown is not rust, thats the color from the factory, 3 paint jobs later this what i am looking at. not too bad. Dose anyone want a gas tank? if you come pick it up in Blairsville, PA 15717 then you can have it.

Re: Chop Tops ???
I seem to remember something about...
the only chop top that look ok, are the ones that the back glass is left stock size, but the bottom of the back window is lowered to match the bottom of the door glass height. And you gotta cut more outta the front pillars than you do the rear of the cab just to make it look level...??? There was an write-up on it in one of the truck mags a few years ago. A chop top is way easier to screw up the looks of, then it is a make look good. For every 1 good looking chop top truck, there is 29 terrible looking chop top trucks... I personally am lowering my '68 Fr=3" & Rr=5" and keeping the stock cab, complete with vent windows... but I like the classic look myself... which means no billet aluminum stuff anywhere... just my opinion.... your truck... built it how you want it.

Re: Chop Tops ???
No white walls on the 20's. Just some low pros.
And i under stand what needs to be done in order to make a clean chop. I a even going to keep the drop rails. So i spent all day in the Basting booth. Let me tell you, if you havent media blasted, spending all day in a helmit with a 30 LBS hose straped over ur sholder is not a good day. But the out come was worth it. |

Re: Chop Tops ???
Here is mine, though it is not on a truck anymore We took 1 1/2" out of the front and 1" out of the back and leaned the post back. I usually don't like chops but I think it looked like crap stock.
I guess you could say mine is chopped and slammed BEFORE AFTER Last edited by jkade; 11-18-2008 at 09:52 PM. |
