Cherubs 82/LQ4 build
Well since i started to do a few things to the truck i figured id start a thread to chronicle the experiance. This is a budget build and im looking to get it back on the road as soon as possible
This is what i started with it had a 350/350 Took off the front end and tryed my hand as spraying in some por-15 it came out ok but far from professional. It suited me good as this is my DD This is the power plant that i decided to go with LQ4 W/4L80E trans. They just dropped it off last night A few problems that came up already: They broke the coil pack on one side of the engine when transporting. Called and they are going to get me another one. I need to requisitiona dbc throttle body. Last edited by Cherub; 05-14-2010 at 10:10 PM. |

Re: Cherubs 82 build
Got some small stuff done.
Sifted through the existing wire harness, removed the exising mufflers and piping, bolted the lsx to sbc mounting brackets. removed intake for installation. Mocked up the trans mount to see how far back i can move it. Ordered S&P headers, poly motor mounts. Sent the Wire harness and ECU out to Nelson Performance in San Antonio to get reworked. I dont know about yall but this build has cost me alot just in tool that i didnt have that i didnt know i needed. Any way thats where im at right now. Last edited by Cherub; 11-18-2008 at 03:28 PM. |

Re: Cherubs 82 build
when taking off my intake i saw this tube(in blue) that wasnt connected to anything. Any one know where it goes to?
Borrowed this pic from a member to show the tube(in blue) im talking about. From looking at the picture it looks like it has something to do with fuel. So maybe its emissions related??? the other end of the tube is connected to a sensor in the intake. Last edited by Cherub; 11-18-2008 at 03:32 PM. |

Re: Cherubs 82 build
Ok well i Got the Headers in from S&P.
So i test fit them and trimmed the transcase on both sides here. The driverside needed more taken off than the passanger side. I also got some new Polyurathane inserts so i replaced the old rubber mounts. The engine went in fine but as im aligning the motor mounts it seem that they are off about 1". Looking at the picture i can see now that the poly mount looks wider. But im going to get some new rubber ones and see if it will fix the problem. So here is how she sits so far. I also recieved the Wireing harness and ECU back from NealsonPerformance out of SanAntonio. With the let down of the mounts i opted not to start on it though. |

Re: Cherubs 82 build
Did you spray the POR? I have heard that with out a good mask that stuff can really cause you problems if sprayed. Looking good

Re: Cherubs 82 build
I thought it was the steam line that is under the intake. Check on LS1tech.com in the hybrids section or ask our own Squarebody member PCMCobra since he just finished his swap.

Re: Cherubs 82 build
hey cherub,
you will also need the brake booster intake fitting. Can't remember the part#, but I got it from my local dealer, that fitting with red circle on back of your intake, push the red "sleeve" in and pull the black part out, put new fitting in and connect your hose. On my tranny xmember, I used the stock one, just moved it to the rear mounting holes, and had a "tongue" welded on to it, check my build thread and I think there is a pic in there, if not let me know I can dig it up. You are making some good progress! Also on the power steering, just take off your old power steering lines (and that spring) and they will screw right on no problem. That's about the easiest and cost effective thing on the swap. free is good!

Re: Cherubs 82 build
From the looks of the pic I think that is for the purge/tank pressure thingy, you can get rid of it, keep the sensor on the intake but just block off where the tube goes in. I used some duct sealer putty, works fine.

Re: Cherubs 82 build
oh, and as for steam line on front of intake, I connected mine to my stock radiator via some home depot fittings, it's not a show piece, but not that bad and serves its' purpose.
If you need any pics, let me know I can show you what I did if you need some visuals.

Re: Cherubs 82 build
Its been slow going but i finally got a chance to work on the truck over the holidays. here is some progress pics.
Removed the bed to do the drop. Dropped the front 6" and the rear 6" Motor is not set on the transmission support yet so that why the engine has that angle. (wasnt like that for long.) Gave her a good bath and power washed the rear frame rails. Then pushed her back into her room. Last edited by Cherub; 03-20-2009 at 03:16 PM. |
