Anyone have Flame Thrower kits on their trucks?
Going to put a Flame thrower kit on my truck adventually, and was wondering if anyone has already done this?
I would have them shooting out from the sides instead of the back. When I redue my exhaust I will have them routed out the sides like I have now. Think it will be better flame show coming out the sides. rtsp://prug.rtsp-youtube.l.google.com/CkMLENy73wIaOgnNSYEYJd5DkhMYDSANFEIJbXYtZ29vZ2xlSARSB3JlbGF0ZWRaCUNsaWNrTGlua2CLsrKk54GFsjMM/0/0/0/video.3gp http://www.eatmyflames.com/dual-exhaust-flame-kit.php

Re: Anyone have Flame Thrower kits on their trucks?
Oh yeah! I see them at a lot of car shows. Mostly rat rods and lead sleds.

Re: Anyone have Flame Thrower kits on their trucks?
I asked this question at the HAMB. But it has not been answer yet. Maybe someone here would now if it would work.
Now, they say these kits are bad for the engines and they say propane injection would be better. What if you did this..... Tap your fuel tank, run a line towards the rear of the vehicle. At the rear place a high volume fuel pump. From the fuel pump, run a line that would split in the middle of the vehicle. Run hard lines to Nitrous foggers that are installed in to the exhaust and controlled by nitrous purgers. To control your fuel pump, simply install a switch for it in your cab. That should take care of gas, and misted "fogged" gas at that, which should have a better ignition. Now on to the ignition. Here is where it would be tricky, but doable. You would need to get 2 of the wires that run from the distributor to the coil. I was thinking you could take a the wire that runs from the coil to the distributor and cut in to it. Add the second coil wire and continue it to the distributor. Now get a heavier gauged wire and splice in to that connection and run in to the exhausts where you would connect them to the spark plugs. This would give you a rapid and continues spark for ignition, right? Of course you would have to switch that as well. So what do you think? It may be a little involved and pricey. But it would be a reliable fuel source that wouldn't damage your engine. And it should give you one hell of a flame!!! Last edited by CSoliz; 01-08-2009 at 09:10 PM. |

Re: Anyone have Flame Thrower kits on their trucks?
If you are thinking of using an electric fuel pump for this set-up, why not use the same switch for the fuel pump as the spark?
I know the ignition cuts out for the traditional flame thrower, not sure if that even needs to happen in your scenario.

Re: Anyone have Flame Thrower kits on their trucks?
I hear ya fellas! I have seen an early 40ish model chevy pickup with exhaust stacks once with propane injected.
http://www.google.com/m/search?sourc...me+thrower+kit http://www.google.com/m/search?sourc...me+thrower+kit I think propane would be safer and engine friendly, but I did just had an idea. . . NitroMethane injected flame thrower kits! Now that would throw a flame. . A little Volatile, and dangerous. . You would look like the tanks in WW2 that had flame throwers on them. I would have to change the project name to: "Project Napalm"

Re: Anyone have Flame Thrower kits on their trucks?
I read through some of the links and old postings. Was wondering if you couldn't just use an old fuel injector nozzle instead of buying a NOS nozzle. Got a handful of injectors laying around....

Re: Anyone have Flame Thrower kits on their trucks?
Just my .02
Autoloc sells a kit for this, with an add on to make the flames larger. Theres a fellow near me that showed me his "box'o'tricks" and he made his ignitor from a motorcycle magneto. The deal with this being bad for your engine is if you do it the "traditional" way (rev the snot out of your engine, shut it off, pull out the choke) is it washes your cylinder walls of the oil protecting them. So you can see where damage may occur. I was going to put propane on Ye Olde GMC but knowing what kind of firebug I am, Id be out of propane quickly. Plus the aggravation of having to remove a bottle to get it filled every time. So, like was mentioned earlier, I planned on installing a pony tank, probably 1-2 gallon, with an electric fuel pump to an electric fuel shut off valve. Then to the atomizer tips inside the exhaust. Even toyed around with pressurizing the tanks of fuel. Keeping in mind the more you go into this, theres the likelyhood of blowing up yourself, truck or both. Dag im getting old, actually warning others of dangerous stuff... Id like to do it in a way where I dont have to shut the engine down to dump flames out the tail. Anyone else have thought on this? Good luck with the h.a.m.b. (just my opinion on them) but if your not in their "traditional hot rod click" dont plan on getting a straight answer. Lots of good information there. But I dont care for the crowd.
