Im about to call it quits when it comes to my truck i dint start it for a few days like 3. and i went out there to start it and it dint. So i poured a little gas into the carb and it would only stay started long enough to burn the fuel in the carb then even with me pushing the gas pedal it wouldn't stay on so i went out and bought a new gas pump and I'm purity sure i put it in right but yet still nothing....I'm so angry...and i just don't know what to try next I'm at wits end

Have you changed fuel filter? With motor off, look down carb and see if gas squirts while pushing throttle linkage. You may have a blockage. There are many things it could be.

Ahhh don't give up, the next thing you buy will run worse... It's an old truck, it'll get better. If the engine turns over without making any weird noises, you're way ahead of a lot of people.

hey tardo.. think i got my truck so "easy"....
he he he.. i love u man (like a brother not a homo)
but it takes time and patience..
check your gas lines.. old ones are sh**.. they are cheap to replace also...
pull the rusted clamps off and blow through the line.. etc.. check for blockages..
and BTW a fuel filter... is 4 dollars...
take time.. and think it out.. if you got an issue.. we r here for you..

best thing you can do, when you can afford it is to buy books. (be careful of internet info just because it's so-so at best unless you know who's typing it, like some of the people on THESE forums you know have good results) buy books on whatever you think you don't know enough about. I have a big collection of car fixing manuals with some dating back to the 40's and newer books too. I have books on cams, exhaust, fuel systems, engine swaps, and whatever else you can think of. they may be $20 or more at a pop but they are gold and you'll have them from here on out for reference. I've read them all cover to cover and still screwed a lot of stuff up. a heck of a lot of my knowledge comes from knowing what not to do (or what i ruined, broke or fried) If you really want to go for car-stuff start out with simpler books and go more advanced as the simpler books become more known to you. but never forget book smarts don't compare with real life experience. remember experiance is the best teacher because she doesn't allow ANY drop-outs.

This is about 1/3 of my books. I got many of them from my dad, but he bought them himself at some point. I don't look at them much now, but I used to use them almost daily. I have seen some of these for cheap on ebay

There's been times where I wanted to push my truck off a cliff. Thank god I live in the plains. Stick with it. As soon as you get this figured out, rest assure, something else will go to hell. Thats the charm of an old truck.

yep, could be, you obviously have a fuel delivery problem so start at the carb and work your way back, filter, lines, tank etc... keep us posted as we all have been where you are and can help...pictures of carburator, line to pump, the fuel pump etc...

maybe change the fuel line from the fuel pump to the filter. might be clogged up.

OK my carb isnt clogged up nor is the filter its like brand new anywase but i tested it out how is a good way to see if the pump is working right cuz i might have hooked it up wrong cuz its a real tight fit by them headers and my other question is my new fuel pump has 3 tubes on it what do i do with the third tube i just clogged it up

Unscrew fuel line from carb...Do NOT smoke...Find a small jar, or use a rag to catch fuel. You need to crank the motor over, and see if gas is flowing through line. Use caution here, as fuel will shoot out if pump is working. Even if you have fuel come through, it may have a low fuel pressure. But first check to see if fuel is flowing...You said you put a new fuel pump on, right...There are many test you need to perform BEFORE you put $$$ into it.

There are a few tests you can do that are very simple.
1)disconnect all lines to the pump.
2)hook up a hose to the tank side of the pump long enough to submerge in a can of gas,and put it (hose) in a can of gas.
3)hook up a hose at the carb side of the pump long enough to put into a container of sorts(just to catch the gas)
DON'T SMOKE!
trun over engine for about 5-10 revolutions,you should have fuel in the catch container. IF SO move to the next step,IF NOT something is wrong with the fuel pump or installation of pump(please explain how you installed the pump)
4)If fuel is pumping,hook up the line from the pump to the carb. Turn engine over for 5-10 revolutions,if it starts,then you have a plugged line from the tank. If it does not start,look down the throat of the carb and give it a couple of pumps. If gas does not come out,your float maybe stuck closed. (A couple of LIGHT taps with a wrench should release the float seat,try again.) IF you DO have gas coming out,check for spark...WITH THE FUEL LINES SECURED! Dont want a fire here.
Anyhow,try these steps and you should be golden. Good Luck.

well i tested the gas pump(disconnected the line to the carb and put my thumb up to the hole) why my brother cranked it and all i felt come through was air so it has to be some thing before the fuel pump by the way i love this site

I know you answered that you have gas, but are you going by the gauge, or have you filled up recently. These gauges go bad.

Sounds like a cracked/broken rubber fuel line (by the tank or selector)
sucking air and not gas.

A beer if you lived next door lol, but if it's the fuel line causing the problem
it's prolly only two or three feet of it that needs replaced, and it's what about
$1.79 a foot at autozone?

It shouldn't be hard to find the hole or crack where it's leaking, check and make sure before you
buy any line, and if you do, take a piece of the old line to make sure you get the right size.

lol I'd easily split a 24 pack with ya but now is that 2 or 3 feet all the way back to the selector valve

Yeah the only rubber line is coming from the tanks to the selector
and a little bit going to the metal fuel line.
