how much $ into your dropmember

Just wondering what every one has into the dropmemeber with everything, including labor if you had it professionally installed. Just trying to find the average to compare against my z quote. Thanks in advance guys. Hopefully you guys don't mind talking $...

Re: how much $ into your dropmember

If you are just looking to go low, make sure you look at the other vendor options. They might save you some money.
I think the DM is the best way to go, but look at all your options. I just bought a C4 DM and I have $1800 in it already and I still have plenty more to go.

Re: how much $ into your dropmember

tds,... make sure you are comparing "apples to apples" when you do this.
Figure all cost associated with the "Z".
(like raising the engine, tranny, driveshaft tunnel, steering linkage, including sheetmetal work)
Will the "Z" center the wheels in the wheel opening when you are done?
Just some things to think about.

I have a DM so I may be biased,... but I think that's the best way to go. The DM also improves the suspension geometry.

Thanks for the help. How much more do you need to buy?

How much do you have in yours?

The reason I'm plotting a z and a dropmember against each other is the fact I'm gonna have to z my front frame horns anyways when I body drop. So id do my body drop and z at the same time. My z quote was roughly 2k. Drop off, pick up. If a can dropmember for around the same or maybe 300 - 400 more then I will DM. But if its 1k more plus labor then I'm sorry ill sacrafice the looks and the benefits for the cash. This truck is for street beating anyways.

Re: how much $ into your dropmember

If you are paying to have it all done,... you probably won't get a DM installed for $2K or $3k.

Re: how much $ into your dropmember

I have a DM and here is general checklists:

Dropmember: $1000 PorterBuilt
3'' spindles: $220 Godfather Customs
Rack & Pinion $205 Summit Racing
Steering Joints $?
Hood Hinges $?

Thats pretty much it, but if I left something out that is needed with the installation of DM, please add to list. Air bag system should not be included because your going to buy items regardless.

I think you should consider a DM.

I could either do it myself at my buddies shop or pay CTC. Depends on garage space and labor quote....

I already have bags, spindles, and cups. So 1k for the member and maybe 500 to 800 bucks for shipping and steering? Under 2k?

nathan posted up where to get everything and i believe it adds up to roughly 1850. i have a few hundred less than that in because i have the same things you have.
cups arent going to be the same but you can mod them.

get the dropmember soon, and with a group buy so it will just be around 1000 shipped. i think the price is going up the end of this month

Re: how much $ into your dropmember

If its 1800 ill definatly go that route. How much is the price gonna go up? I need to call nate and ask him a billion questions.... like do I need a new power steering pump and all new lines? Do I need a new drive shaft? Must the tranny and motor be pulled?

I would say that with the quality you will find in a DM from Porter it will be worth the money! By the looks of them they should probably cost more based on craftsmanship alone..... (Don't read this Nathan )

Re: how much $ into your dropmember

Remember "Apples to Apples" so with your 2K Z will that also be all new steering parts? With the DM you provide a new Rack and Nate sends you the new outers so now your steering would be all new. Also the DM gives you better steering (by design) and better handling even with the standard kit. Also I don't think you will need a body drop with a DM. Spend a small amount more now and you will be much happier later.

Re: how much $ into your dropmember

Noob question, but I am planning on a blazer and want to bag it. I am not planning on modifying the rear seats more than an inch or two so it will not lay in the rear....does it still make sense to do a dropmember? I would like to improve the geometry of the steering over just spindles and bags.

Yes it still makes very good sense for all the advantages you get from a DM. Also with a few inches of bed mods you will be able to get very low so you will have a great ride with out bottoming out. Right now I am working on our 72 Tahoe and with less than a 4" raise to the rear floor I am almost laying out with 31" tall tires on 22's in the rear.

Re: how much $ into your dropmember

Actually the best bang for your buck would be to run a mustang II weld in cross member. You can purchase the M II crossmember fully loaded with drop spindles, M II steering and bags delivered to your door for under 2 g's. And you will have the wheels centered in the wheel opening as well.

The C-10 DM's are nice. Just cost to much for what you "don't get"......

Show us this link w/the prices for an apples-to-apples comparison of a weld-in crossmember kit vs. a bolt-in DM set-up. Please list all the items the MII comes with for that price.....

You can easily center the wheels when doing a Z. I did a 3.5" Z with a 74 degree angle cut to move the xmember forward 1".

Re: how much $ into your dropmember

Here is one that comes to mind. But there are several kits that can be purchased for at or under 2 g's.

http://www.rjays.com/Heidts/hei-m2complete-pkg-01.htm

The kit above is a little more than 2g's with out bags.

I had the same kit on my 66 Impala that you can see in my build section. I was able to piece together my M II front end for the Impala with bags and 2" drop spindles for $1685.00. I am looking at the receipt right now..... So I can tell you from experience Mustang II front ends are the best bang for your buck. I will be doing the same M II on my 65 chevy truck.

Here is the just the Mustang II cross member..... http://www.rjays.com/Heidts/hei-m2-xmembers-01.htm

I have seen the Mustang II cross member as low as $250.00 on the net.

I actually took measurements from my Mustang II cross member I had installed into my 66 Impala and will most likely build my own.

There really is no "apple to apple" comparisons with a Mustang II front end. Mustang II front end components have endless upgrades possibilities. And you can use up to 13" disc brakes.

If you want to get a truck low with great handling and front wheels centered in the wheel well. Mustang II is the best deal in my "hands on" opinion ...
