Another CL find - Street Coupe edition
Never seen one of these before. Price is really high, but it's a sharp truck.

Re: Another CL find - Street Coupe edition
Pretty cool, but since it ain't factory I wouldn't pay that much. I don't think GM put a 454 into a 1/2 in the 80s, late 70s was the last.
But if it was original, why would you do all that to a truck that was 1 of 150??? Modifying brings the value down.

Re: Another CL find - Street Coupe edition
I didn't forget them. Dunno why GM didn't make a 1/2 ton with a 454, the 80s needed all the power they could get....

Re: Another CL find - Street Coupe edition
Even with the engine change it would still be rare for the sport coupe edition. Now it lost some of it's value to that, and I wouldn't pay the $14K for it, but if that's what someone is looking for it may be a really good deal.

Re: Another CL find - Street Coupe edition
I don't know if the 1 of 150 is accurate, and we know the BBC isn't correct. Despite all that, take a look at what you get for your money.
It "appears" to have been nicely restored. If everything is done correctly and the paint job is top quality, he isn't too far off on his price.

Try to restore your average stepside to that level, and see how much you spend. I remember a new Street Coupes in my home town around 1981-82. I'd love to have that truck!

Re: Another CL find - Street Coupe edition
Good Afternoon-
I have been reading for awhile, but this is my first post. I'm always looking for information on the '78-'81 Street Coupes. There is not a lot out there, but to the best of my knowledge '79 was the last year the 454 was available in the 1/2 ton until '90. Keith can probably verifiy that. The Street Coupe on CL has been listed in several different areas, for several months. It was originally a 305. It was made in Canada. He said he had documented information from Canada stating from '78 through '81 there were 1500 per year made total, an of those only 150 per year from Canada??? I've only seen 4 or 5 Street Coupes as a whole listed, all were small blocks. From what I can tell the big block was an option but not standard for the '79, at least. 73-87.com has some good information, I know most of you are familiar with it. I have been meaning to contact Keith Seymore or 80SPORT on the subject. They both seem to have quite a lot of information. I'm not very good on the computer. I will try to get some pics posted. |

Re: Another CL find - Street Coupe edition
StreetCoupe- Thanks for coming out of the shadows and posting. Don't be shy as we don't bite.
I have been a fan of the Street Coupes for a while myself. If I were to ever find one in the right year/color combination, it would be in my garage. I actually paused before I opened the link, hoping that I would see a red 78/79 Street Coupe. Please keep your comments coming.

Re: Another CL find - Street Coupe edition
I think I posted a link to that one when it was on ebay. It had a black bucket seat interior, too. I think those are great colors on that truck; the only down side I really see is that I can't afford it.

Re: Another CL find - Street Coupe edition
I think the truck looks pretty good in those pics. I know as well as anyone that pictures can be decieving though. The truck looks to have nice features and seems well put together. I would like to find out really how acurate all the info is on the exact specs that were offered on the Street Coupes.
On a side note, the seller states having "over $10000 in paint, body, and bed restoration". That really isn't all that much. Like has been said, good luck building this truck for that money. I did some paint work on a 51 for a guy and he had between $30-40g in paint alone. Granted that was full custom, inside outside & top to bottom. But really $10g in body & paint is not that much.

Re: Another CL find - Street Coupe edition
This was for sale on e-bay last month. It ran twice and sold for $1699. Bed was shot, but had a lot of good parts and was complete. I have more pics but the file was too large. I have a step-side like the one in the '79 dealer booklet. I'll try to take some pics of mine to post soon.

Re: Another CL find - Street Coupe edition
That's my favorite version there. I don't know why, but I like that color combo best.
Thanks for sharing.
