Re: What did you do to your truck today?
A co-worker told me about a 'new' wrecking yard near work. He thought there were some older trucks there, and I should check it out.
Yesterday, after work, I dropped by. Sure enough, there were a bunch of older American classics, all being prepped to be weighed and scrapped. Oh, the horror! Anyway, I talk to the owner and mention my need for a new hood. Any good ones around? He shows me a rusty '63 Fleetside with a good '65 front clip. I look at the hood, examining the rear brace area for good steel. Yippee! I said this looks really good. How much for the hood? Front clip is $100.00, hood is $100.00, piece or all, $100.00, I want that out of here!!!!! He had moved it from one yard in town to a smaller yard in a smaller town and then brought it back up to be nearer the scrapper. So, now my truck is yellow with a green hood. But it closes tight. I mean it doesn't feel wonky or anything. My wife even says it's prettier. That's a big complement from her, considering she's hated the yellow from the day we saw it back in 2005. I wonder what the neighbors across the street think now? I don't think I will ask them. AnlaufJohn

The demo has begun on the cab. Its just about all stripped down and getting it ready for paint. I have two weeks to finish everything before paint.

Made progress on Frankenstein fender (making one good one from best - rust free - parts of 2) - now ready to weld together!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Finally got my clutch pedal assembly to work right on my 62, now if it'll only last I might be able to replace the clutch, bleed the brakes and work on the heater fan assembly, I could be driving it!
The foot of snow on the cab and foot and a half above the bed rails adds weight for traction. If only it wasn't supposed to be -18 tonight...... Last edited by Ghostwhite; 01-29-2011 at 10:54 PM. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Sadly nothing today...but I did get to do quite a bit of research into doing a disc brake conversion for my 66, as well as compile a list of parts I need to order. I'm going to pick up my donor parts from my storage unit tomorrow, break them apart, and start cleaning them up.
the good idea fairy also paid me a visit today...and I figured out how I can have a bed mounted tool box in a stepside bed. The bed is 50" wide and I found a metal box that is 48" wide. Is it ghetto...yeah kinda...but hey I need storage for my tools and it'll be a lot tougher for someone to break into this than a plastic locking tote box. They make a 36" one too that's about half as small...but it's so small I can't see a good use for it after I'm done with it. The 48" one I can at least use as a secure storage cabinet for my ammo, gunpowder, and primers as well as my many misc gun parts, parts guns, and stuff from when I had my own gunsmithing business. worst case it'll become my zombie apocalypse safe box kinda like this http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.htm...=304121&page=1 Page 4 of that thread has the plastic locking tote I was thinking about getting. They're similar to the tuff boxes we get for deployments...they're not that "tough". And it's a lot easier to break through plastic than metal Last edited by k1rodeoboater; 01-30-2011 at 12:03 AM. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I got the fuse box mounted and some new holes drilled in the firewall to run new wires to where I want them. I am using an EZ Wiring harness with 21 circuts. Man there are alot of wires.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Ended up having to go into work for a few hours. My plan was to watch the end of the 24 hours at Daytona race and nurse my hangover, but no such luck. Still, got some stuff done.
-Replaced the blower motor for the heater -Finished mounting the 3-point retractable belts on the driver side -Replaced the fuel filler hose. Finally, I can fill it up all the way. Why did I put up with that for 15 years? -Started replacing the felt strips/rattle strips on the driver's side. Stopped by the rain, had to stick a wood shim in there to keep the window up for the night. And, finally got off my a@# and cleaned up the garage a bit. *If anyone's looking for parts, I have the stock 6-lug wheels, drums, spindles, master cylinder, and stock height springs I'd like to offload, just PM me. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
patched up some holes in the cab, gas inlet and filled some holes under the dash, got to cut out the PO hammer work for HEI clearance next, the cab had those two holes at the bottom that I have seen on these trucks for the dealer installed air, planning on putting in AC vents in the ashtray area sorta like the OE version but will make my own.
