For the same reason that BMW, Mercedes Benz, Lexus, Acura, Audi, and other brands have been doing it for years! While GM may lack an affordable machine that hauls @ss, performance is alive at GM. However, look what the youth of today drive---Ricers. We'll see more RWD vehicles from GM (2006 Impala and others) and they will carry a large sticker price. I'm with you though, I'll stick to modin' my truck.

Best is another bad example. Best at what's being made maybe. Best is not really the truth. Nothing they are building looks killer to me. They all are way, way, over priced for what you get. It's a sad state of affairs as far as the collecting and performance enthusiast goes. None of this junk will be around long enough to become a classic. I never meant they were going out of business. Just going downhill on their thinking. They will continue to make billions of dollars off the unsuspecting public like they always have. I'm not buying into it. But, after saying all this, I'm a tried and true GM fanatic. Won't own any other brand, no matter what or how it looks. Just wish they would get back to what made them so good in the first place. A front wheel drive GTO or Malibu, or even a fancy sporty Caddy, ain't going to do it for me. |

All those cars are FWD? Let's see:
CTS---RWD XLR---RWD Escalade, ESV, EXT---RWD and available AWD. Pontiac GTO---RWD Not all FWD vehicles suffer from bad torque steer---Ever drive a new 300hp DeVille or new 260hp Accord? While I realize technology can only advance so much, they have improved allot since 1993. My brother is a mechanic for GM and the NBS trucks/SUV's are great. Only time will truly tell though. I know where you are coming from and respect your opinion. Keep on truckin'..............

In the 90's GM had cars competing against each other. GM is trying to get back on track with Bob Lutz at the wheel. They are making progress (no Oldsmobile, Pontiac loosing cladding and making nice cars again, KILLING the Aztec, trying to make Cadillac "standard of the world" again, etc.) GM has their hand full right now trying to get this gigantic company back on track. They have been neglecting some areas (for now) and making some things worst (why the SSR? It won't sell!) But at least they are trying right? I'm happy with the new Chevy's face lift (although it took me a while to get used to it). The trucks have pleanty of power (other trucks may have more horsepower and torque, but Chevy still beats them and makes it feel like it has more than it actually does). Ranting over

all in all, i have to agree with swervin...gm is putting out a lot of crap... but its not all bad. the main problem i see is that everything is too damn expensive. NORMAL GUYS CANT AFFORD THIS CRAP. ford and dodge are much cheaper.
that SSR is butt! thats all there is to it. the pos 325 in the new trucks is a joke. should've kept the 350 so costs would stay down, reliability up, so they sell more vehicles. the new caddy's are bada$$...i dont think they are doing a thing wrong there all the plastic is cheesy, just like the DRL's on the new trucks that are ALWAYS BURNT OUT! come on, spend an extra 5 bucks and put a quality light in. The Duramax, along with the allison tranny is awesome! im very happy with my mom's 02' impala 3.8 (no supercharger) but no torque steer, and it is pretty torquey but all in all, i would not buy a gm truck...probably not a gm car either(as if i could afford it)

You do know that GM (Chevy + GMC) outsold F*rd last year for the first time since 1994, right? F*rd can still claim to be the #1 selling single brand for 20+ years though. My brother has a 2000 Impala with the 3.8L V6. It has 80,000 trouble-free miles. These cars drive and feel great going down the road.

It means exactly what I said! The majority of young people drive Riced out Honda's and other Imports. I don't hate all Imports (Heck, my DD is a Tacoma) but half of them are a joke. Body kit, wheels, exhaust, stereo, and suddenly it's quick. Give me a break!
Hey, that's just your and my opinion on the topic. BTW, the Mid-2003 Impala and Monte Carlo SS are quicker than the 94-96' models in every test (0-60mph, quarter mile, etc.) Oh well, we'll have a new RWD Impala soon enough.

bagged c10,
the reason they outsold them is because there are so many die hard chevy fans that wont buy anything but a chevy...it doesnt mean they make a good product. it just means that people see the older trucks that were really "like a rock" and think the new ones are too. i didnt mean they would sell more vehicles than they are now...i meant they would sell them the right way, while still having a quality product at a lower price. if that makes sense bagged 81, the impalas are awesome, especially the new 03's. but thats all opinion so it doesnt matter...they will never make everybody happy...never have and never will

I agree with Daniel fully, the youth of today are majority ricers. They get the car their parents will give them (honda, acura, toyota) and then they mod it...their parents give it to them because it's SLOW and they DON'T want them to go fast. Hell, if parents wanted their kids to go fast, don't you think they'd buy them a camaro or something?

Oh, you guys are killing me. :p
Btw, it was the '00 3.8l V6 Impala that was in question, not the '03's. I dont know the first thing about the '03's.

Well heres my .02 I bought my wife a brand new Grand Am GT back in 2001. On the belief that Pontiac still had a good car being my 96 T/A has hardly ever been in the shop. In 37,000 miles we have had the ignition replaced 3 times because the security system wont reconize the key, 2 times because of warped rotors and there is a recall on that but they still didnt fix it right. 1 for a intake gasket leaking oil, 1 for the doors to be adjusted since you could hear wind noise it sounded like you didnt have a window all the way up. A/C knob broke off in my hand and the list continues. To make a short story long My wife is soooo frusterated with her car that she wants to sell it and get a used 90-92 Camaro or a K-5 Blazer and fix it up like I'm doing to my truck.
