Gimme your 2 cents on my unique wheel choice...?

In thinking of how i was going to build my truck, I decided to go with early 17" chevy artillery rims and wide whites, just always liked them, never ever seen any on these trucks either, later we'll see how they look with paint and skins... let me know what you think so far.

I really like your concept. They'll look great in any color. Two tone would be different. Do they have the clips on them for hubcaps?

Re: Gimme your 2 cents on my unique wheel choice...?

I've always liked that wheel design, and the ones pictured are more stylish than most. Back in the 60's a local guy had a set of chrome reverse rims of this type on his 41 Chevy coupe and they looked great.

To my knowledge they were last produced in the late 1930's, and probably have 4 or 5 in wide rims riveted to the spokes, which may be too narrow for modern tires. They may require inner tubes, both because of the rivet construction and because they lack safety beads on the rim. Before spending a lot of money on finishing, have them dipped or stripped and do a close inspection where the spokes attach to the rims to make sure there are no cracks or defects, and the bolt holes are round and undamaged.

I've always plan to use them on a stovebolt dream truck. Your idea is a good one.

artilleries are awesome, im just not sure how they will hold up to the trucks weight and also power transfer. Lack of width, and the fact they were designed for way smaller commuter cars kept me from the idea, but more power to you man...they are really nice wheels.

Turned out very kool. Don't see many 17" wide whites, very unique.

That's a tough call. I can see it with caps, but then you lose a lot of the detail in the wheel itself.

Oh no, not caps. The exposed lugs are part of the look.

they are '36 Chevy according to the guy i got them from, ya i thought the 17's would be cool cause you don't see em too often, the mounting is a pain, not too many people mount tires with tubes correctly...

I'm curious, are they powder coated or painted? The finish looks perfect. With all the reflections they almost looked pinstriped.

Re: Gimme your 2 cents on my unique wheel choice...?

I sand blasted them then painted them with Imron black single stage, i'm pretty happy with the way they came out. Here's another close up...

those look great - better than I imagined when just looking at the original wheel only on the hub - but go figure... Nice job! And I agree with most of the crowd - no cap, or a spider at most, they're just to purdy to hide.
