Re: Doing it for the kid! 71K20 4X4
Project is looking great! Black and orange complement each other very well. And good luck with the welding. Can't tell you how many cut-off and sanding wheels/discs I went through on my frame. I pretty much learned how to weld on my frame so I made a lot of mistakes and got my white walls covered but it at all worked on in the end. Keep those pics coming, I need the motivation.

I am eager to see how this turns out! What transfer case is in this truck? I need one to put in a 68 4 speed. Thanks!

Re: Doing it for the kid! 71K20 4X4
Time for an update
1-got both rocker panels welded in to include kick panels, door pillars and other nick naks 2- sandblasted and chassis savered the inside of the cowl and got it welded back on, holy cow there were alot of spotwelds 3- got bad sections of cab supports cut out, fabed up and installed 4- cab corners welded in, not that pretty but hey thats what body filler is for, i feel like a rookie butcher trying to perform brain surgery 5- repaired lower part of core support with a piece of metal i fabed in our metal shop out of 16 ga, it fit very well and when i finished we coated with chassis saver also, we will eventually coat the lower half with undercoating for one more layer of protection. Looking good and keeping me motivated as always. Any updates? I've been tied up with youth sports and working on my honey do list on my end.

Re: Doing it for the kid! 71K20 4X4
Nothing new lately, we have been spending most of our time with his motocross. He is almost 16 so the testostorone is raging through his system and it has made him WAY more aggressive on the track and his results are showing it. What im trying to say is that now we are torn between racing and getting the truck finished. The way i look at it is i win either way. We will finish it one day, im sure! And yes, i am making excuses, i should find time to do both. Seriously though, we are at the body work stage and im not that good at it so we are moving way slower, no worries though, we will get there. Thanks for stoping by, now i HAVE to go work on the truck. Oh yeah forgot to mention he fractured his wrist two weeks ago at a race so i really have no excuses to not be in the garage!

Re: Doing it for the kid! 71K20 4X4
Just back from the blaster, now its time to turn it over to the body/paint Gods/demons. I guess it all depends on ow it turns out and how long it takes, as to which one he will be called. Wish me luck.

Re: Doing it for the kid! 71K20 4X4
I see u made it to the rolling stage of ur rebuild, but just a caution for u and everyone else.
dont trust those saw horses, they need cross bracing otherwise any side load and they just want to lay down on u, the legs loose their grip on the top cross board. |

Re: Doing it for the kid! 71K20 4X4
Body will be in paint before Christmas I am told, so im trying to get all of the small parts preped and painted. I guess you could consider this progress. I made the battery tray at my metal shop, I just couldnt see paying 50$ for something i could make, now i just need to blast and paint with chassis saver.

Re: Doing it for the kid! 71K20 4X4
SCORE! After months of searching, from coast to coast, I found these hooks from a kid less than 20 miles away and he let em go for 200$. I think that used up all of my luck for the rest of my life. Just one more part of the puzzle!

Re: Doing it for the kid! 71K20 4X4
A few more parts installed.
1.Finally got the tank installed along with new fuel line. 2. Routed and welded up exhaust. 3. Body is still at body shop, she is ready for paint but of course we chose a paint that is both expensive and not in stock. 4. Purchased 4in lift but did not get installed, no excuses, just lazy! Thanks for stopping by. Happy new year to all! |
