72, 2wd blazer

hey guys, this is my 72 factory 2wd blazer. As far as I can tell it has had one re-paint (exterior only) I believe that it has about 71,000 original miles. I cannot confirm this, but the interior is stock/original and the undercarriage is just way too clean to be a 170,000 mile truck.

A good friend of mine brought the truck out of North Dakota in 2002. He installed 2-1/2 drop spindles in the front and 4" drop coils in the rear with rally wheels (yuck on the rallies). in Five years he put less than 4000 miles on her.

I bought her in the summer of 07. the first thing I did was ditch the rallies and added some 20/22's. Then I installed a cpp bolt-in notch with 6" springs/2" blocks. Up front I added 3' drop coils (with one loop cut off) I love the way it rides. Doesn't bottom out at all. And I drive the wheels off her. I also yanked the 307 in favor of a mildly built 350. Toying with the idea dropping in a bigblock though.

Here are some pic's. As purchased, before drop, and current.

What a great looking Blazer, congrats on the purchase!

One of my favorite colors.

So what's next?

Re: 72, 2wd blazer

Thanks guys. This truck is my cruiser. Once my shortbox is on the road, this one is next for some major work.
68 clip, and probably a pb stage 2 kit. I don't wanna cut the floor.
Up here these are pretty hard to find, at least in good shape.

Re: 72, 2wd blazer

Wanna sell it?

It's a great looking Blazer, and with so many changing the front clip I would find it difficult to do. To each their own and either way it will remain a true 2wd.

Any interior/motor shots?

Re: 72, 2wd blazer

I will look tomorrow for some more pics.
I've thought long and hard on the clip change.
I'm just a much bigger fan of the 67/68. I do plan on storing the original clip, just in case I wanna return it to original. However, I will never change the color.

Re: 72, 2wd blazer

Rory is an awesome guy. I drove it more last season than he did in six years. I enjoy giving him the gears about it. I also bought his 98 Chev.
I've seen yours around town as well, very nice truck.

Re: 72, 2wd blazer

Nah, he gave up on that truck and cleaned up a 98 extended cab shortbox with only 130,000 clicks on it. Then found out it wasn't able to tow his newer bigger trailer. Oh well his loss, my gain

Re: 72, 2wd blazer

sick blaze always good to see another factory 2wd out there did you notch the rear or anything cause im thinking of running with the same setup as you but with 22s I know they dont hit on the rear with a 6 drop but its right on the rubber bump stops. Again nice ride thanks for the post.

Re: 72, 2wd blazer

With 6" coils and 2" blocks and a cpp bolt in notch I have not had any issues withe the suspension bottoming out. I am also running a cpp adjustable panhard bar.
I have not yet installed the shock relocators but I am told they are worth it.
The wheels are 22" with 265/35 series

Sweet looking Blazer. I like the factory color. I hate to see you change the clip. It all in the eye of the holder. Hold'er tight! Looks like a keeper.

Thanks, I was expecting alot thoughts on the clip change. But since I have no intention of ever selling, I can always change it back.

Here is a few interior/under hood pics. They are a couple years old. Interior is the same, engine compartment is cleaned up but not painted. I'll get some more as soon as I can.

Re: 72, 2wd blazer

So you're running about a 7/8 drop with a bolt in notch and no issues bottoming out??? Wow, looks like I've got a game plan lol. The truck looks great. Could you pull a measurement from the center of the wheel to the fender lip for my reference? I'm trying to figure out what drop my blazer has so that I can figure out what I want to do to tweak the suspension.

I can do that. However, the truck is in storage but I can go there tomorrow and measure.
