Re: Jessica, my 86 lwb

thanks 1986c10!
the ram air is from summit the part number on it is a SPE-728. i bought mine on sale i think i gave $99 for it they run em on sale fairly frequently but i dont think its but $140 or $150 when its regularly priced.

the kit comes with the flex tube and a plastic connector to mount up to the core support. i relocated my horn on the drivers side over about 3 or 4 inches (dont quote me on that) bassically just to the next set of predrilled holes on the support so that i could pipe out on that side. there is already a perfectly drilled hole on the drivers side to pipe too. now on the passanger side there is an identical hole but it has a plate over it. (in post #37 you can see what im talking about) for the passanger side i just took my reciprocating saw and cut that plate out to make the hole. i used the included hardware to mount the inlet adapter to the core support to pipe the tubing to.

now i didnt wanna leave my intakes open cuz i wanted to take one more precaution against rain and water getting in there. not that you have to you can leave em open i just didnt want to.

i had some sheet aluminum laying around the garage (dont know the gauge sorry, its thin thats all i can tell you lol) i used the "cap" i cut out on the passanger side to get a dimension to cut the new ones with and then just marked it out on the sheet and cut it out with some snips. then i took some 1/4 copper tubbing i had laying around and cut 8 pieces about 2-2-1/4 inches long to use as a spacer. i drilled out a quad pattern in the support around the hole and then used some 3 or 3-1/2 inch stainless steel deck screw to attach the caps. (sorry i know im horrible with messurments im more of a size it by eye kinda gal ) again you can look at post #37 to see all the pics i have of it up. then i just rattle canned it black to hide it behind the grill and put her back together.

since i havent really had her "out on the road" (apart from the drive home, 3 miles with a bunch of stuff in her cuz i moved) im not sure what i got preformance wise. i still got a TON of tuning to do to her to before shes running well enough to tell but that fresh cold air can never hurt. lol

hopefully i awnsered your question

I don't want to hear it , it is 10 degrees F here today. I second the cold air intakes- nicely done.

Re: Jessica, my 86 lwb

this will be my second drop. first one was in high school on my 83 silvereado. only instead of buying new perches we cut the old ones off welded on the lines left and welded them onto the bottom, and used a torch to heat oposing sodes of the coil springs while i jumped on the hood LOL looking back that wasnt the safest way to do it while uncle was under the truck

Re: Jessica, my 86 lwb

thanks for the link in the engine bay thread.

I looked you up and I might follow you up on your design for my intake.

mine is open now and rain and water could just be sucked in....

and I hate the piping I have used sofar. I Might change that in the future too!

the flex duct should be causing a huge resistance and restriction too the airflow....

thanks again! man

Check this place out for duct hose. This is the stuff used on things like large scale leaf vacuums and such. Some of it has a smooth inside so it won't create turbulence. You can also buy in small quantities.

no prob kikkegek glad i could help
i believe that you can actually pick up just the ducking off summit but dont quote me on that. i did list all the part numbers and everything in that other post maybe if you search that part number and then go to related items you can find something that will work.
