I took mine apart again... I cut out my fenders and set them on and... I won't be able to turn much with stock width arms and my wheel backspacing. I was going to sell the arms I just got and get -1s., but that may be a pain. So I'm trying to figure out the best way to narrow the front.. I think I've decided to move the lower control arms in 3/4" per side. I have over an inch of shims on the uppers, so i know it will work. Just having a hell of a time laying out my cut lines to move the mounts.

I also have been collecting parts the past few weeks, got a brand new gm headlight bezel for 10 bucks! Also picked up another small tailgate band, sport mirrors for the driver, a factory take off tailgate for 40 bucks! Gotta love Craigslist and the Portland swap meet.

So I've spent about a week laying out lines, scratching my head figuring out the easiest way to do this, and I thin I've finally figured it out. My goal is to move the lower control arm mounts in 3/4" per side. Sounds easier than it is... the upper a arms have at least an inch of shims, so I will still have adjustment there with a bit of grinding on the crossmember to clear the bushing portion of the arms. I will post pictures of that as I reassemble.

I layed out parallel lines with the portion of the crossmember where it bolts to the frame. This is where I will cut/ slide the mounts in ( the vertical lines shown are preliminary). The horizontal lines are about 3.5" below the top of the crossmember.

I got some scrap 1-1/2" tubing about 3' in length and bolted it it the crossmember with the ubolts. I drilled holes in the tubing so it would sit within the mounts. I used the biggest bit I had ( I forget the size) to clear the factory pop rivet.

I don't have pics yet, but what I did then was take some scrap 1 inch square steel and cut four pieces into about 9 inch long sections and two pieces that are about 18 inches long. I will be Bolting two sections with the pieces (3 per front, 3 per back). I drilled holes 6 holes in each 18 inch sections (3 per side, all spaced 3/4" on center) I drilled 2 holes 3/4" on center on each 9 inch section.. so, I will be Bolting the 2 - 9" long sections to the 18" sections, then, tack welding them to the 1-1/2" tubing. After these are secure, I will cut out each lca mount. The whole piece will then be lifted out, then I will move the bolted sections in the 3/4" per side as already predrilled. This will keep the lca mounts parallel with the crossmember section that bolts to the frame.

I will then have to tack the mounts, and work the crossmember to match the new angles. I will also replate the areas I disturbed.

seems like a good plan. please post up losts o pics. what will moving your control arms in do to the position of the bag? will you just drill new mounting holes on your upper bag plate 3/4" in?

Haven't gotten much done on the crossmember, been working on my 250r and rewiring my buddys 250r for lights, putting a new carb/ jetting it for him. (it is the bike I built and traded for the paintjob on my project truck, so gotta keep the painter happy) Getting ready for some dune trips.

Got most of the cuts done.. I decided to not bolt the bars, just weld some tubing the will get cut 1-1/2" in width, then welded back together, then measured an even width and welded in with a bunch of bracing.

The lower a arms have an extra hole to bolt the bags about an inch out. If that doesn't work, ill shift the bag on the upper mount a bit.

No updates. haha. I have been in two stroke mode as of late. Went to the sand dunes for memorial day weekend and I just bought some old two stroke street bikes (Yamaha RD400 and Yamaha RD350). I've been researching and getting the RD400 ride-able. I rode it around for about an hour last night, so I will probably get back on the truck in a week or so.

I have almost fallen off the squarebody grid as of late. I hopefully will be getting back on track shortly. I recently picked up a pretty cool daily driver that I have been giving a little bit of attention to, a 1950 Chevy sport coupe ( yes I know it has a 52 front clip). I also have spent a bunch of time on my street bike. Too many projects will make a man go mad. It would be easier if my obsessions were just with squarebody trucks! Ps. I have been watching most of your builds on here, it is always motivational.
