Re: 60-66 Chevy And GMC 4X4's Gone Wild

Just wanted to post my first message and say I've spent more time in the last few days reading about 60-66 Chevy and GMC trucks than I ever imagined. This is a great site ! I have a real passion for these trucks. I still have the 65 4x4 I bought 22 years ago in Silver City New Mexico from the widow of the original owner. Truck then had 17,000 original miles on it. It hasn't changed much. All I have at the moment is this picture to share of the truck. I've been an active collector ever since of 60-66 trucks.[IMG][/IMG]

Welcome to the forum. Glad to see your first post was here on this thread that I started. I love your saddle 1966 3/4 ton 4x4. Did you buy this off Ebay some 20 plus years ago? I had my eye on it then, but it was out or my range back then. I have had the pictures from the ebay auction saved on my computer all these years and have always wondered who the lucky owner was. Glad to have you as a member and thanks for your contribution to this thread.

Also wanted to post these pictures of a 1962 GMC Civil Defense Panel 4x4. I went to a farm Implement auction in Minnesota to get this truck but was outbid every time by the gentlemen in these pictures. Truck was incredibly nice in most respects. He bought it for his son in the Military and it was going to be presented to him when he returned home. 11,000 original miles.

Might be a strange question, but is the "CMG" on the grill intentional I wonder?

that is the earliest documentation that I have come across of 16.5" tires and wheels being issued. most light truck manufacturers never started offering them until 67-68 production years.
they were std GM equip tire from 71-75

I hope that my eyes are still ok, but on your Gronvold motors inv. I believe that the optional tires installed were 10 x 16.5 6ply. if that is not what is on there , pls tell me and I will have to go get my eyes checked.
10x16.5 frt
10x165 rear
10x165 spare
I have never seen any truck listing for that size that early. didn't think that they were in production until 67

My bad, thought you meant the 62 GMC. Yes the 66 has 16.5 wheels, sorry. I have some photos of an original 1958 NAPCO Fire Department 4x4 Panel that had these exact same wheels 16.5 only they are 6 bolt. I also have a 1961 3/4 camper that has them in the rear and were painted to match. I would have to take the tires off and look for dates to see if they really are that early or if they were added later.

I am the proud new owner of a 63 FrankenBurb. It has the body of a 63, mostly, the frame of a late 70s Chevy 4x4 and an '87 454 motor. I'm gonna name it Frankie.

Dont reckon any of you guys have seen this one either. It is another short video of the white monster truck belonging to Matt Smith. It fits the title of this thread completely.
