A rat rod is a car or truck put together with what you have to work with. Alot of bone yard parts from other vehicles and not a shiny plush interiour. If its a ford with a Chevy rear n studs baker engine so be it. But alot of them are safe and alot are not. Although now days alot of em are big bucks.

Re: 60 to 66 chevy gmc rat rod pics?? Got any??

Here's my 37 Chevy tow truck. It's a 427 with auto and it's very safe cause I built it for the wife. Junk yard parts,,,,,you bet it does. New parts,,,,you bet it does. Liecense plates for sun visors, copper flash light for a liecense plate light. Upside down copper funnels for dome lights, leather and brass horse halters for exhaust hangers, glass door knobs for door handles, coffee grinder crank for the boom and I can go on and on. Air ride suspension with a home made 2x4 frame. Yes there's alot of antiques on it about 43 and it took me 8-9 months to complete. How does it do at shows? Unreal cause people are always looking for something different. I enjoy when I see people looking at it with a smile from ear to ear. Some even stated that it's a piece of art because of all the ideas. But I guess the bottom line is, to each their own and no, not all like them. I've had several street rods and this is my best build ever. Now time to get the 63 C10 done. And it was my wifes entrance to the alter in our back yard on Halloween when we got married. She drove it down our lane with open exhaust and reving the engine. It was soooo cool.

WOW, thanks man!

My truck has been refered to as a ratrod but I don't think it is. It has radrod touches like the mirrors and battery box but I wouldn't tell somebody it's a ratrod. I don't really Know what to call this class of truck.

Re: 60 to 66 chevy gmc rat rod pics?? Got any??

I think the term "Rat Rod" has been overly misused and has began to lose its true meaning. The earlier definition (Wikibowtia) is pretty much the way I see it.

As for Crash'd - your truck is nowhere near a ratrod. Your truck is darn near stock from the outside looks. It is very nice by the way.

My buddy is building a '49 F*** and refers to it as a ratrod because the top is chopped and he has swapped in a newer subframe and updated powerplant. It really pisses me off sometimes, because he is seeking out those specific pieces that he knows (because it has been done a million times) will work. He has done little fab work himself and most of what he has done were bolt on parts.

CL really gets my goat as someone will post a part to an old vehicle and tag it with "ratrod" and triple the price. Get a clue.

I have almost come to hate the term altogether. Oh well. No need to get all worked up over it.

I have the same feelings as you do on the whole "rat rod" subject. Because my truck is primered and has steel wheels and white walls, the uninformed think that it MUST be a "rat rod". I had a '41 Ford pickup a while back that was primered, had powdercoated steel wheels, wide whites, and no fenders, and it was ALWAYS referred to as "sweet rat rod, dude !".

I have pinstriped a bunch of cars and trucks that the owner wanted "ya know, that rat rod style pinstriping" on it. I politely explain that I don't do "rat rod" paint jobs.
