dare to be different engine choices?

hopefully i dont get shunned for this, but anyone on here used an engine other than chevy in their trucks, or know someone that has? my dad had a gto when i was growing up and i have a 350 or 400 pontiac lined up to go in the 64. anyone know of people dropping poncho power into an ol chev or gmc?

I bought a '60 short step for parts years ago that had a 350 pontiac in it. A nailhead would be cool.

Yep, I run a 462 ci Pontiac in my C-10.

Nailheads FTW!!! I have pics of mine in the link above. Got it back from the machine shop thursday. Picking up another 401 naily saturday. Approx 60,000 miles on the engine, complete except intake and rockers. $100

put a 75 455 and a th350 out of a 79 ta in my 63 long step dropped right in!
used the shorter 3 speed on the column driveshaft,and also used a set of motor mount towers out of a 73-87 3/4 ton 2wd, -direct bolt up to both-.
pirated the transmission crossmember out of the 79 ta, 2 bolt holes lined up, and had to drill 2.
had to remove the e brake crossmember for clearance, and haven't figured out what I will do there yet... thinking of seeing if the 66 style e brake system will work.
cut the original bellhousing mounts off the frame.
had an exhaust shop bend some 1.5 inch tube for the upper radiator hose, and had to trim the stock aircleaner to fit around the deluxe heater...
used a stock auto column out of a 63 gmc, might have been a hydromatic? regardless it had the correct detent for the th 350, used the linkage from the 73- 87 auto, including the bellcrank(?) and its mount that is bolted to the 73-87 frame.
if I can I will get some pics of the install soon.
used the stock pont. exhaust manifolds and cross over pipe for now, but dual exhaust doesn't seem like it would be a problem.

nailhead for 100?! thats crazy! vin that motor is just beautiful! i bet that thing cranks, id love to see the rest of the truck. and jonz pics of tht install would be primo! this is great, im glad im not the only one that wants to do this

I have always thought that a Pontiac engine is a perfect swap candidate for the old GMC engines. The Poncho engines are torquey and make excellent truck engines. I like Pontiacs a lot.

I fabricated my own frame to block mounts from scrap tubing and plate I had laying around, but you can use the regular frame mounts and the GM conversion block mounts.

I have a s10 2.2 4 cylinder in my 65. yeah I know it wont win any stoplight races but its pretty close to the stock hp and tq and I dont have little man syndrome anyway. just kidding. It drives just fine though, plenty of pep.

I was curious what kind of gas mileage you get with the 4 cyl . What are your gears ?

Stock 98 s10 drivetrain, so I think a .7 overdrive and 3.73 rear. I haven't run a full tank through it yet, had it together with the 62 body and changed to a BBW 65 cab. But the sum is lighter than the s10 and the c10 so it should better the 25 predicted by the s10, depending on the aero effects.

its funny you mention that! i just got a line on an old 392 xD haha that would be sweet! awbrown, where do you find info on stuff like that? i cant picture how the turbo would go on a 250...what kind of rpms would you be running with a turbo? must have to be a small-ish turbo to get full spool with the I6 rpm range? might have made myself sound stupid but im curious!
