just brought home an 88 burb.

i've got an 85 swb currently. light blue, draglites, 5.3/4l60e, pretty decent truck. i've also got 2 daughters. 2 1/2 and 5 mos. so the swb is going bye bye and the burb is taking its place. i picked her up for $1000 and the body's pretty straight, mostly rust free, with very good interior. by far the nicest original interior i've seen on a square. it runs and drives, but the transmission is flaring out on shifts. by the time i get the engine and trans sold and aluminum wheels that came on it sold i'll have $500 in it. barely over scrap price! i'll be putting in the 5.3 and the draglites from my shortwide. also, while i'm doing the engine swap, i'll be having my bodyman doing a burnt orange/ cream two tone on it. should be a pretty nice one by the time i start driving it.

Sounds cool. Post some pics. I'm looking at a 90 2wd sub for the same reason ( 2 and 4 year old ) and I was thinking of a 5.3 swap. The color combo sounds cool.

the front seat cover's ragged out on the driver's side, and the carpet needs shampooed. that's the only bad about the interior.

I can't see the lower third of the first pic, but the rest look pretty good. What are your plans for it?

EDIT: Nevermind, I confused yours with another. Keep the pics coming, it sounds like it'll be a sweet driver.

Got the burb dropped off and pulled the quarter glasses real quick when I did. We were talking about the 2 tone. I was thinking a general motors style split down the middle on the body line and trim section. He suggested one split above the body line and then the whole bottom the other color. What's you guys opinions?

Yes, that's what I had in mind. Sunburst orange I believe its called. Its on the newer hhr and several others.

I haven't nailed one down yet. I need to play around with photoshop a little and make sure cream is what I want. Id like to see silver as an option, too. I hate this part!

The exterior paint is kind of washed out, but looking at your interior pics (glovebox), it looks like that would go great with the sunburst orange. A good painter will know how to tone it to match. That's a great combo.

That's true! Keeping that color would save a bunch of work and still look good together! Thank you for pointing that out! that would keep me from having to pull all the interior out of there.

You wouldn't have to paint the interior if you didn't want to, but still plenty of pop. Do you have any pics of the wheels/tires from the other truck that you're going to use?

i have a few of my shortwide. wheels and tires are getting switched, but as my truck budget grows again after the paint, i'll probably put some better looking wheels on there. i really like the coys, but my draglites will have to do for now.

Great starting point. Dash look decent also. For the trans, throw a pint of this http://www.mpc-home.com/metal-treatment.php in it and put some miles on it. I'm not saying it'll work miracles, but I've had it correct a few 700R4s and 4L60s that I thought for sure were in need of a teardown.

With my 88 V10 that I bought last year, it has a vacuum switch that's going to be replace (one controlling torque-converter) to solve one problem. However, it has an aftermarket trailer brake-controller, which leads me to believe that it was used for more than just light towing. It has the 700R4 in it, which is notably intolerant of moderate to heavy towing when left stock. Would running some of that be a good idea for myself to do?

Im getting right at 20. Drops to 17 above 75. But most tanks I get 20.xx

Once you drive one with the gen3 engine, I couldn't imagine going back. I can honestly say that ill never have a carburetor again unless its a numbers matching deal. Never on a driver though.

I really like that 2 tone. I think id have to paint the headlight buckets and center strip of my grille too. Id love to bag it, but I have to be able to tow. Ill have to research that. Thank you guys for helping me out!

Possibly. It's not going to screw it up, but, if the trans is on it's way out, nothing short of a rebuild is going to fix it.
