Re: C/30 Pics: Frame-Mount RVs
Some great campers here. I just recently started putting member's name in the code of pictures I save. I lose track of where the pictures come from,so thanks for any I "borrowed" from members. I guess it's no different than googling for pictures and finding your truck. I run across mine from time to time.
JDL,that looks like a good one. And,I guess you missed the "Tow Truck/Car Hauler" thread. All nice trucks. Yeah,P-chassis are just fine...why not, right?? Farm trucks...that's a good idea. I was thinking of something that would include them. Feel free to start on yourself. You/me,it makes no difference A single wheel cowl & chassis:

Re: C/30 Pics: Frame-Mount RVs
I'm curious what kind of power these things have. Can they pull a long grade and keep up or do they drag down to nothing? How bout pulling a boat or a car on a trailer ... is it even feasible?
We have so many hills and mountains out here I wonder how well they really work.

Re: C/30 Pics: Frame-Mount RVs
Well,my '70 Custom Camper/30 402/TH400 that no longer had the camper, but an 11' steel utility body chock full of tools in the bins,on the ladder racks, and materials in the bed almost got me thrown in jail cuz I wouldn't let a State Trooper in an unmarked Astro Van pass me . Sure,my wind resistance may have been a bit less but it sure was heavy. I should post that story some time.

Re: C/30 Pics: Frame-Mount RVs
I have a 71 C30 with a Franklin chassis mounted camper. I am going to break the 55,000 mile mark on it pretty soon. CG asked about performance....Just the camper it runs like a race car. I was passing cars the entire way up the Cumberland Gap pass without a problem. I have also pulled my 71 Suburban on a tow dolly and a 20' enclosed trailer filled with parts. It can be done, but you can really feel the 6000 to 10,000#'s it was pulling.

Re: C/30 Pics: Frame-Mount RVs
Actually the normal gas mileage is right at 10 mpg. Those 402's don't really change much loaded heavy or running light. I didn't check it for the last show because it was so close. Maybe I will see what it does with the trailer this weekend.

Re: C/30 Pics: Frame-Mount RVs
That is a clean camper you have there. That's would be a handsome rig to see going down the road with trailer in tow. It's true with big blocks, they like to drink gas just cruising empty, but throw a load on and mileage changes very little if at all.

Re: C/30 Pics: Frame-Mount RVs
Those are really nice! In regards to mpg, it sure hope mine gets 10 mpg! but never have driven it fully loaded out. PO said to expect 10 mpg on average on highway. I have a 327 with 4speed granny 1st.

Re: C/30 Pics: Frame-Mount RVs
I just sold my 2nd motorhome. One was 86 gm the other was 85 ford. Both big blocks and both got 6 mpg. So 10 mpg would be real nice. Ive always liked these old chassis cab motorhomes. Some day maybe Ill get one.

Re: C/30 Pics: Frame-Mount RVs
OK I finially found a motorhome thread. I just accuired a 68 that was made into a flatbed several years ago. They made the bed usuning the motorhome floor. It still has the walk through hole. The main reason I bought it is it still has its buddy buckets. I couldn't beleive it. This thing was used by a concrete contractor and fairly beat up but they never pulled the seats, even though the drivers side has no lower cushion, amazing. I also just got a 70 with a Eldorado camper. It has 39,000 miles on it and is virtually rust free. This one has A/C but the buckets are long gone. The PO started to remodel the camper but I'm tearing it down. It is actually pretty clean but I felt too far gone and I really didnt want a camper anyway. I want to put a flatbed on it since it is the shorter wheelbase C-30. I will get some pictures tomarrow. I'll be looking to try to sell the 68 Chassis soon. Some day maybe I'll find a nice one like some of these pictured and go fishin.
