67 to 87 ball joints
Does anybody know the different size ball joints gm made for each year of truck? Or what years they changed sizes/parts.
Having some problems fitting the cpp spindle on my ball joints....must have the wrong size or year

right on man! So if the kit is to fit a 67 truck I must be running 70-72 or 73+ joints

That would be my guess. Was it already converted to disc?

How can you tell what ball joints you have?

Re: 67 to 87 ball joints
I don't know, might be just as simple to take your spindle to the parts store and see what fits. Which CPP spindle did you buy? Does it have a part number on it?

Re: 67 to 87 ball joints
I wonder if the rotors and calipers are different too for the different kits or do they use the same rotors on all the kits..

Re: 67 to 87 ball joints
That sucks, I think you might be able to use them by just switching to the newer balljoints. But I don't know if your rotor and caliper will bolt up correctly, plus you're out the price of new balljoints. Hopefullly someone else will chime in on this one.

Re: 67 to 87 ball joints
I had a similar experance with a set of drop spindles from Early Classics claiming C-10 on the box but actually they were C-20's. Even molded into the cast as a C-10. Lower ball joints and tie rods were too small. Proves you can't believe always what you read even molded into the item.

Re: 67 to 87 ball joints
Did you check the tie rods? Mine swallowed those too. Figures they would tell you that.

Re: 67 to 87 ball joints
The tie rods fit in. Maybe to loose I didn't look to hard I was pissed.
Now they want me to send them back at my expense so they can inspect them. Shipping is $60 NY to Cali What a load of crap. If I was rich I would fly there and toss them through the front window.

Re: 67 to 87 ball joints
Mine had at least 1/16" of slop after tight. And I had Por-15 them already so no returns.

Re: 67 to 87 ball joints
I am going thru this right now as well. I was sent '70 drop spindles and they did not fit on my new '71 ball joints. So I bought all new '70 ball joints and tie rod ends as per CPP. Ball joints fit like they should and the tie rod ends fit the spindles like they should but the threads were different. I had to buy new inners and sleeves as well. The drag link is the same from '68 to '86 so the taper that mates to the drag link on the inner tie rods stays the same for those years. The threads however, do not. They change for '71. The taper on the outer tie rods and the threads change for '71. So if you are mixing and matching, do your homework. I learned the hard way, thru my wallet. I now have a brand new set of Moog ball joints for a '71 sitting here that cost me $200 just collecting dust and two perfectly good used tie rod assemblies for a '71 also collecting dust. Buying and replacing the new new parts was about the same price and weeks quicker than exchanging the spindles. Shipping 50# of spindles from MI to CA was gonna be a killer plus the repaint when I finally got the replacements plus the time to ship and red tape.

Re: 67 to 87 ball joints
mine have surface rust because they ship with no oil and bag.
Plus it has been way over 30 days because I had to save up to buy the rest of the parts(rotor calp...ect..) So I am out $300, I am just going to buy them from Summit racing...no shipping charge and they will be here next week. $235 Try and sell mine for the 73-87 trucks...

Re: 67 to 87 ball joints
I hope the correct ones bolt right up. Then I hope this thread will help others save money and stay away from crap companies... more money than brain power is always bad.
