Re: 1985 GMC 4x4 LS Motor Swap, tons of pics!
Thanks guys.
I figured out how to block off my EGR hole in the intake without spending $30 at the dealer for a block off plate (GM Part #12558346).. I just slapped a freeze plug in there. Cost me 99cents haha. (Dorman part #555-093.1).. I also got a BUNCH of goodies in the mail. Stay tuned and I'll get pictures. |

I got a bunch of crap in the mail. Fuel stuff and fuse block stuff. The only thing stopping me is the -14 degree C weather.

Re: 1985 GMC 4x4 LS Motor Swap, tons of pics!
Thanks guys.
The headers are just an eBay brand. I picked them up for $250 (on sale). For a 5th gen Camaro 6.2 liter. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 1985 GMC 4x4 LS Motor Swap, tons of pics!
I haven't gotten around to touching the truck because it's been so cold. It hasn't been this cold here for a few years I'm not used to it!

I was getting around 10 mpg average with the TBI setup. I'm sure it could've been better |

Re: 1985 GMC 4x4 LS Motor Swap, tons of pics!
Here are a few pictures I snapped yesterday. This is how the truck sits now but I took the bed off and it's in the backyard now. I plan on getting an 87-91 suburban tank and ditching the saddle tanks.
And here are a few pics of the motor. It's all put together, all I have to do is the WIRING. I'm not gonna lie, I have no idea what I'm doing I will have questions about the wiring and how to get this going. I did do a fuse block according to what lt1swap.com shows. I just have to plug in the ignition now i suppose.. I'm going to mount the computer in the cab behind the glove box and run it under the intake manifold for a cleaner setup. I installed the lokar throttle cable and it works great. |

Re: 1985 GMC 4x4 LS Motor Swap, tons of pics!
Well I am very happy to announce that my 5.3 swap is a success!! Why was I so worried about the wiring? it started right up today and sounds very healthy! It has a gas leak where the fuel rail meets the AN fitting though... I'll be fixing that tomorrow. I'll post a vid soon.

I had the same thought when i was done with mine! Now, LS swaps seem like a piece of cake dont they?

Re: 1985 GMC 4x4 LS Motor Swap, tons of pics!
That's what I've been sayin!
Yes it is a piece of cake. I want to do an ls swap into something more difficult now. There's a nice 66 Mustang for sale locally that I have my eyes on. 'Built Ford tough with Chevy stuff' will definitely piss off the Ford guys! |

Quickie update, I'm definitely not done with this truck! But I took it to the dealership to get tags and update my plates. I called my insurance company today and it is officially my daily driver (at least on days not nice enough to ride my motorcycle) At the dealership, all the technicians were oogling at the truck while they were doing the emissions test (this motor runs CLEAN by the way). I got so many compliments and good-job-pat-on-the-backs, my ego is through the roof with this truck. Not bad for a 21 year old guy who has never taken an automotive class in his life. I didn't know what an 'ls motor' was until last year |
