These trucks are universally cool!!
I recently bought this truck. I've got everything up and running and thought I'd surprise my 10 year old daughter and pick her up at school. She goes to a private school where most the parents pick up their kids in luxury vehicles. When school is out, all the kids line up outside the school and wait for their ride to pull up. I really wasn't sure what the response would be, but really thought she would be embarrassed to be picked up in my "rusty old truck". As I pulled in I could see the whole school trying to figure out who's ride it was. After my daughter hopped in with a big ole smile, she said her friends were like "dude, who's sick ride is that". "That's my dad's truck" she said. To which they replied "No way! That is awesome!"
I know it, and you know it, but even 10 year olds can see that these trucks are AWESOME! Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: These trucks are universally cool!!
You tell you baby I just got a big silly grin on my face..... I am also a non conformist, so would have been one of the impressed kids at school.
Neat truck too. Well done.

Re: These trucks are universally cool!!
I remember having to be picked up from middle school (late 90's) in mom's 1978 Olds 88 tank... So I had the exact opposite experience your daughter had.

Re: These trucks are universally cool!!
Awesome story man, my step daughter is the total opposite.....She would be soo embarrassed to be pick up in my old truck. She is 13 almost 14 and very materialistic. Atleast I have 4 sons that would love to be picked up in my trucks.

Re: These trucks are universally cool!!
I was picked up in the early '90s with one of these. 1973 Malibu wagon. It was green, and nowhere near in as good of shape as this one. It sucked growing up poor.

Re: These trucks are universally cool!!
Great story! Stories like this give me hope for our country! I have a 13 year old daughter and I'm confident I would get the same reaction if I went to pick her up in my truck. There's nothing like putting a smile on someone's face with a classic ride and you, my friend, have done just that!

Re: These trucks are universally cool!!
We had several 65-66 Steppers when I was about 6 or 7 (some 30+ years ago). My Grandmother still loves to tell the story about how my Uncle used to get sooo mad when she picked him up from school in them. I thought they were cool when I was little. I remember almost falling out of one when the door popped open coming out of an 84 Lumber. My Gmother had to pull over and light a cig after that one! 8D

I pick my son up from a private school in mine too and the kids have the same reaction. The parents on the other hand are all scared I'm going to scratch their Escalades and Mercs!

Re: These trucks are universally cool!!
I know YOUR EXACT FEELING !!
Couple of years ago, when I owned my black '63....my son was also attemting a private school. Which the vehicles of choice there were Mercedes, Range Rovers, Porsche, etc. I would pull up with this old, primer black truck... no hood, thump'n engine, smelling up the entite line of cars. All the kids would point, and hang out their Audi SUVs with smiles... In fact, the head of the school, told me..."You know what Mr Oliveira, this truck has the most class out of all these vehicles"....

Re: These trucks are universally cool!!
I wouldn't mind getting picked up in that, but I love old B bodies. My mom drove a '90 GMC Suburban, my friends called it the shaggin' wagon

I didn't care what I was being picked up in as long as I was leaving school.

I have a '65 Suburban, and my 11 year old daughter already wants it. She's even named it "Rango" and I have a stuffed Chameleon on the ash. Man I love that she has great tastes in trucks!

Glad to hear that young people like our old trucks. They have style. We put so much time/thought/money into them!

Re: These trucks are universally cool!!
My very first vehicle was a '66 C10, so I started driving myself to school when I was 14(learner's permit here in KS at the time)
Before that is was the big yellow bus... My step-daughter is really into these old trucks, and been helping with the 'Burb and the "new" '65 LWB. She's 16, so I am blesed that she has interest and wants to hang out with me in the shop! |
