How to make a truck motor look good?
You go look in vettes and camaros etc and the motors look clean and pretty sweet, however when it comes to these truck motors they just look butt ugly.
So my question is for some of you 5.3 and 6.0 guys.... what have you done to make the engines eye candy? To my understanding if you use a car intake that requires alot of other changes like to accessory brackets ect. Thanks in advance. |

Car intake + accy's.
I've seen some smoothed intakes where they cut all of the ribs off of them and they still looked awful. Wise man once said - you can't polish a turd. |

Re: How to make a truck motor look good?
The coil packs will be in the stock location. I'm using the Holley LS accessory brackets.

Re: How to make a truck motor look good?
Thanks for the compliment, it is a Vortec Max cover, I just ground off the letters with disc sander and then used bondo to fill and feather it out. Be sure and scuff the rest of cover and use a plastic adhesion spray before painting.

Re: How to make a truck motor look good?
I'm building a whole engine cover out of aluminum since I don't care for the stock ones and with it fully covered it cleans up everything. It also allows me to go hood less.

Re: How to make a truck motor look good?
It's still pretty ugly, but LS3 intake and F-body accessories helped. Also moved the coils.

Re: How to make a truck motor look good?
I like that too... other than the turbo what did it take. Dont you have to have l92 heads for the ls3 intake?

Re: How to make a truck motor look good?
Yes, i have LS3 heads (rectangle port)...hence the LS3 intake. Just bolt the f-body accessories on (with an F-body balancer) and go. I made brackets to relocate the coils down by the motor mounts.

Re: How to make a truck motor look good?
The crank pulley is the balancer.

Re: How to make a truck motor look good?
Coil relocation & nicer valve covers are a good start. Putting an aluminum intake on it is expensive but probably helps. Brackets that are a little less industrial looking would help too but I don't know whats available without going to the full car accessory setup. A standalone harness will lay out a lot cleaner / nicer than a modified factory setup. Other than that... it's an engine.
