New to me 2008 Sierra RCSB
So I just picked up a Sierra tonight... Needs a little attention and a good cleaning... Cruise control isn't working and the rear is whirring a little... 122K miles... Here are the pics from CL...

Re: New to me 08 Sierra RCSB
OK, so the rear is making noise ... I would like to replace GM unit rather then rebuild it... what are my options... best solution without costing a million bucks... needs to be done in the next week or so....
I think I want a Detroit Truetrac ... not sure about the part number. I got a list of RPO codes from the dealer and I didn't see the G80 posi unit listed and it doesn't have the HD tow package... I think this is the one.... GM 8.5 Detroit Truetrac Posi Differential 30 Spline: P/N 913A481 Last edited by mcmlxix; 08-31-2013 at 03:06 AM. |

Yes... Detroit Locker 913A481 Trutrac Differential is the correct one... it needs the correct bearing set for the late model trucks....

Re: New to me 08 Sierra RCSB
did you get you cruise control fixed? I ask because I just got a 2008 Seirra rcsb 4X4 4.8l and the cruise control is not working either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: New to me 08 Sierra RCSB
I did. As long as the light on the steering wheel comes on, its most likely the brake switch attached to brake pedal arm. A/C Delco# D1586H, GM# 15861245. All you need is a 10mm wrench and a small screwdriver to pry the clip apart. It's a ten minute job to swap the switch. * If the light on the steering wheel doesn't come on, you may have other issues such as a bad fuse.

Re: New to me 08 Sierra RCSB
Just pull your stop switch off the pedal, pull it apart, clean it, put it back together. It will work after that. Most of the time the connections just need cleaned up on the inside.

Re: New to me 08 Sierra RCSB
No problem. I read about it while I was researching my speaker issue. If it doesn't work, then you will have the new one.

Re: New to me 08 Sierra RCSB
I finally got the stop light switch replaced when I got home this morning. And whadda you know the cruise control works!!!! WOOHOOO! thanks for all the help you guys!
I did notice that for the last week and a half that when I pressed the brake pedal the brake lights would light up but not stay on unless I pressed hard on the pedal. Since the switch is replaced now the problem is gone. |

mcmlxix,
nice ride. I like the GMC front end a lot better than the Chevy on that body style. -W |

Re: New to me 08 Sierra RCSB
Thanks W -
I need to wash the truck... but I added white mirror caps and white door handles... Sill need to remove the 1" rear block and install the rear drop shackles... that should at least level the truck out... but it still looks live a 4x4.... |

Re: New to me 08 Sierra RCSB
When I got the truck the front chrome bumper had a good little dent in it... I bought a cheap aftermarket replacement and then had the three pieces covered in color matched and UV coated Line-X..... heres the shot at dusk just afer I finished bolting everything back up... I left the two hooks off and had some aluminum plates cut to cover the holes and mount some LED running lights. (you can also see the white mirror caps in this pic)
I also picked up a set of McGhaugys 2" drop spindles off CL that I haven't had the chance to install yet and a new set of rear U bolts to remove the 1" lift block. That will gove me 2" drop in fron and 3" in the rear... that still leaves the rear too high to be level ... oh well... Once I get my 72 Blazer done, I'm going to sell the Sierra and restore a 1973 Mercedes-Benz 280SEL I have waiting patiently... so I REALLY can't spend more money.... |

Re: New to me 08 Sierra RCSB
How did your Line-X dealer get the product to stick to the chrome?
