Think its about time to start on this thing...
Ive had this 61 factory four wheel drive for a couple years now. Spent $150.00 on it from the original owners grandson. It was definitely bought to work, but I got it running and it will drive around our farm. Like this mostly because I never see any around at shows or anywhere really. I get a lot of questions about it from those who see pictures of it. So since ive pretty much all but sold my other trucks, I figured Id start on my dream 60-66 chevy pickup. Let me know what you guys think. It needs just about every panel but its bumper to bumper its all there.

I'm working a 61 K10 also. Looks like it's going to be quite the challenge.

Re: Think its about time to start on this thing...
That's a cool truck. The '60-'61 factory 4wd stepsides are pretty rare. Most of those were beat to death back in the day, and few survived. Glad to see you back on this one.
For $150, you got a smokin' deal. I'd restore the drivetrain and leave the body as is and have fun with it.

Re: Think its about time to start on this thing...
The plan is to go through the drive train a bit, freshen things up. I picture it in a dark green probably forest green with a couple of spotlights, the skinny original looking tires, maybe a chrome grille with chrome hood inserts. Just depends on how I think it will look

Re: Think its about time to start on this thing...
That would look really cool brought back to stock configuration. You wouldn't have to worry about seeing another one like it around. Subscribed.

Re: Think its about time to start on this thing...
Well, I got a damper put on the project today...my 67 Camaro RS just spun a main bearing on me and knocks louder then when the cops are at the door. So there goes a decent chunk of money into it. But I still plan on getting this thing freshened up, just might be a little slower.

Re: Think its about time to start on this thing...
So 61 had the 4WD control lever on the left side of the 4 speed transmission and 1960 was on the right?
235 with optional external oil filter. Optional auxiliary rear springs. No rear view mirror? Optional locking hubs. What are the other wheels in the bed?

On the 4WD lever, there has been talk of it in the past, and I don't think we ever reached a conclusion, other than, who knows what happened... My 60 GMC has it on the Right, http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=433482&page=3 (post 65) and KroAutomotive's 60 GMC has it on the left http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=532295 (post 14). J. Kirns is on the right like mine http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=355603&page=2 (post 44) Not sure what the deal is. Both Kro's and mine look original, and J.Kirns is restored so beautifully the way it was. |
