Re: Definition of 'OCHRE'

I was never a big fan of the color until I met "The Ochre Ogre" Kevin "da-burb" I'm still meh on the color but have a lot of respect for the "Ogre" and his friendship.

He's owned a ton of Ochre trucks and probably has at least 4 or 5 right now.

Ochre is a veggy if battered it mostly resembles a battered booger, enjoyed mostly in the south.

Re: Definition of 'OCHRE'

A lot of people get ochre and okra mixed up. Try frying up some ochre and eating it and that'll fix that!

I grew up loving my dads ochre truck! It just suits this truck so well. I doubt it ever comes back on new vehicles.

I never thought we'd see it on new cars either, but now Kia offers a close variation of ochre.

Re: Definition of 'OCHRE'

I love all the factory colors, and ochre just screams 1972. It had to have been one of the more popular colors back then, by far most of the 72 trucks I come across were originally ochre.

Re: Definition of 'OCHRE'

i'm pretty neutral on it. I wouldn't paint a truck that color but if I came across a clean one that was priced right I wouldn't pass it up. two tone with white they aren't bad but when they are solid ochre they just look to utilitarian for my taste

Re: Definition of 'OCHRE'

Sometimes I look at it and see a mustard (the spicy kind) yellow which has a brownish quality. It's a toned down yellow. I guess that's what some people don't like. But, once I got a '72 K/20 in Red Orange (Hugger) & White like NM Deadhead's and parked with my Ochre & White '71 Custom Camper/20 and '70 custom Camper/30 work truck all I could see was a nice Sunshine Yellow. The color looks just right at the beach. My first truck when I was 18 was a solid Ochre SWB w/parchment interior. One reason I bought it was I envisioned a California surfer truck. I was all out into surfing then and it was perfect. Put the 8"/10" steelies on with '55 Chevy car caps and went to Hatteras!. When I lived outside of Flagstaff about 10 years later I bought the 4wd brother of my first truck and the color looked great in the Arizona sunshine. I keep considering doing my '67 GMC in Palamino Tan just to blow peoples mind. That'd what color the clip that started it all was. Everyone sees it as pink and with the red interior I have it would really look pink. "Hey man, do you sell Mary Kay? Ha Ha Ha!". "No man, I'm just man enough to not need my truck to define my masculinity or be threatened by a color".
an interior in a beige to saddle would tone it down to more of a peach or even a rich tan. I know one thing, I never saw a Palamino that shade. The other cool factor is GMC put out their 50th anniversary model as a gold with cream Suburban Carrier and called it the Palamino, so the color's name gives it an extra link it to GMC's heritage. And, I'm into that aspect of trucks

Re: Definition of 'OCHRE'

I wished I had kept my 72 Blazer ochre. With white it really pops, great combo. But really any well maintained: cleaned, sealed and lightly waxed color of the period looks good.

Yellow Ochre has good heat resistance and is often used to prevent Solder entering unwanted areas.
Now you know

My 72 ochre blazer.
I don't feel the painter matched it correctly after seeing all the other pics here.
It seemed to match the existing paint which was original.
Maybe it is just the pics. It's been in storage since September

Oak-rah (okra) is a fruit often used in Gumbo.
