My new 20's

A couple of members wanted to see my 20's and explain what I had to do with the adapters. So here it is.

I wanted to be able to rotate my wheels so I had to order them with the same offset. I ordered all four 20x8 with a 5 inch backspace to fit the front. I knew they wouldn't fit the rear without a adapters, but I decided to do it anyway. Adapters are really against my better judgement, but the ones I am using are only 1.25 and I bought the best one I could get that were CNC milled.

The adapter didn't fit at first so we had to machine them out to fit over the end of the axle. I used all new lugnuts and loctite. I was impressed with the quality of the adapter over all.

The down side of the adapter is that the studs that come out are metric, so now my front and rear lugs don't interchange.

Here are some pics of my new 20's.

What company makes the adapters? Are they adapters or spacers? If they are adapters you would have to run them in front and rear right?

They are adapters, but the are 5 on 5 to 5 on 5. So basically they are fancy spacers. They are on the rear only.

I really didn't think I was going to like them, but now that they are on I think they look good. I don't think I could do it with any lower of a profile tire though.

It does have a HotWheels look to it.

What thickness "adapter" did you end up using in the rear?
Thanks!

droptop-

Thanks for all your help. Do you know if you have the wider rear end? I'm still unclear if all the 72's have the wider one.

In your opinion do you think I could get away with another 1/2 - 3/4" of backspacing in the front for a wider wheel?

Your truck looks sweet! I'm tring to figure out how to make these bad boys fit since they only come in 20x8.5 with 5.5" backspacing...

I'm almost there I think I just need some good feedback, and you're providing that thanks again!

Adapters are very safe. I run them on my IROC and I know few people using them that participate in road racing events. No problems. jsut make sure you have them torqed down of course.

Nice looking ride!

Blue Beard:
Centerline said they were aware of the problem and had a couple of different style caps to try. So I think they already had the design down they just had to machine out some existing caps. We'll see when they get here.

meathead95:

I have a 2/3 drop it was custom made by a spring shop here in town. It is starting to sag a bit and bottoms out to easily. It does ride ok, but I think I'm going to an ECE kit in the future.

I have to compliment you on the truck. It's beautiful and obviously a lot of work went into it.
Most of all though I want to thank you for posting this info. It is just the kind of stuff that I am always looking for. (and others I'm sure)
Now for a couple of questions.
What size tires are you running that are in the pics?
You mentined the lugs on the adapters were metric. Could they be changed to standard if tools etc were available and can you provide a name for the adapters?

Thanks

The tires are a Goodyear 275/45/20. The adapters were metric, but I don't see any reason why someone couldn't change out the studs to a different thread size.

I'm not real sure on the brand name of the adapters. I bought them from a local rim shop that specializes in 20"-26" and they said they have never had problems out of these spacers. I also had them inspected at the machine shop and they said they were well made.
