New Blazer - 1971 CST

I bought another one home today. Much better than the one I am currently working on. This is a 1971 CST with tilt and AC. It has some rust, but overall it's pretty solid. My plan is to clean it up, change all the fluids, new body mounts, and then drive it.
Here are some pictures of the shop it was in before I bought it.

We put a dent in the tailgate when loading the Blazer. You can see it on the right side of the latch it took out the trim and put a small dent in the tailgate. It was very unfortunate, but once it's done, it's done.

What are these metal things under the floor? I don't think I have seen more than 50% of one of these!
And finally a picture of both of the 1971 Blazers at home. Mama was nice enough to give up her garage stall for a while. I did ask before I bought it, and I asked before I brought it home if I could take her stall for a few weeks. She is so lucky to be married to me...

I see how it is. Use a nice heavy duty fancy new trailer for a 30 mile trip. I'll bet the brakes even work on this one.

After seeing the Blazer in pics I'd have a hard time doing anything with the orange one.

Blazer has been in town it's entire life. Dealer's owner's son bought it new, sold it to a local guy, who sold it again in the early 90's, and then I picked it up. So I would be the 4th owner.

I am going to start by getting fresh gas in it, then prime the oil system, and then see if it will start. Gas siphoning is giving me a heck of a time through.

yeah, your text came as I was watching a flock come in last night. We use an old Ford frame mounted electric pump to siphon gas. They make plastic hose siphon kits with a cheap plastic squeeze pump and they work once or twice. Pretty cheap to buy. I have one left in garage at home if you want it. Had I known you needed it I could have dropped it off Friday night or this afternoon. Want me to bring it Sunday?

update;
both Blazers run. The orange one is not much of a surprise. The green one amazed me. We'd have taken it for a drive but the brakes are nut up to snuff yet. I don't start deer hunting until December so if Shawn needs me, we can attack the brakes. Hint-hint, get wheel cylinders and calipers, hint-hint

It took some work with a wire brush and wd40 but I got the front bleeders open, the drivers side had crud around it and gave a bit of a fight. I haven't checked the rears but I will tonight. I bought 4 new bleeders just in case, nothing worse then working on stuff after hours and not being able to get parts. If I can get the brakes bled we will see if it moves. The car wash is 3 blocks from my house, so if we can get it to move and stop we will head down to the car wash sometime this week.

It moves! I drove it to the gas station (2.5 blocks away) and washed the windshield. Tomorrow I will get there before the car wash closes and hose it down top and bottom. I should probably get license plates and insurance before tomorrow's trip. I was so excited tonight I didn't even think about that until I was back in the driveway.

We took it to the car wash tonight. My oldest son helped clean it up and then we went home and picked up my other son and we went around the block (you know how that goes, a 10 minute trip "around the block".
There is rust, and scratches, and a couple dings, but it's a 44 year old unrestored vehicle. I am very tempted to leave it as is.
We have a lot to do; make sure all lights are working, install seat belts, clean out gas tank, change fluids, etc. But now that it moves and it's clean those projects seem a lot easier. I have torn vehicles down to nothing, it's hard to stay motivated when you have a frame and a huge pile of parts. I am ready to take on a running/driving project. Do a small thing, drive it around, then do another, and so on and so forth.

I got the gas tank out tonight. I will pressure wash the outside tomorrow and then pull the sending unit and see what it looks like inside.

I wasn't sure that I should have gone to the trouble of pulling the gas tank. As you can see by the attached photo of the sending unit, pulling the tank was a wise choice. I am pressure washing the inside of the tank, once it has baked in the sun for a while I will take a look and see if it's clean. I am not opposed to ordering a new tank, but of course would rather use what I have if I can.
