Question: Junkyard Serpentine Belt Setup

I have a SBC350 going in my 1950 3 window and was wondering if anyone has ever done a junkyard serpentine setup on the older block. Wondering what might fit. I want to run A/C and power steering.

There is a pic of it in my build thread. I am running an ac bypass pulley from doorman. I'm am eventually going vintage air and they have a bracket adapter to run their compressor with the factory bracket

I have a GM vortec 5.7 (350) in my '51, stock bracketing and serpentine belt - if parts are ever needed they are easy to find and replace.

Oh that looks great. That is just what im looking for. What year was that setup off?

I'm running a serpentine setup from a 1989 Suburban with Vintage Air. They sold me a bracket to bolt up the compressor. I think their systems can can be made to work with just about any setup. Just tell them what engine you get the serpentine setup from and they will get you what you meet to make it work.

I already have my vintage air setup I bought brand new last year. Its still in the box. I need to pull it out and see what I got with it. LOL

That style was on several year models of GM pickup and suburban, this was out of a '99 - I just happened to have a couple and they are very reliable so I went with another 5.7..

Donaldo hit on the most important thing in this type of swap. All factory parts from the same rig so you have a lot simpler job of finding replacement parts if you need a replacement part.

If you are able to pull the pieces off a donor yourself in a wrecking yard get the info off the info plate right down to the vin number of the donor and keep it in your reference file for the truck. That could save you or even more so the next owner of the truck a lot of headaches if a replacement part was needed.

One thing to worry about is on the right head there may not be a hole for the top bolt. Sometimes you have a large enough machined flat surface to drill and tap but some heads either don't have that flat spot or its not near big enough to drill. Some crate motor from Jegs are half that size and need a different type of mounting. The red pictured one can be drilled I think its a 72 and older just know that it goes into the water jacket and you will need to use bolt sealer on it. Some don't worry about that bolt at all but you should if you have AC

Good point there, missing bolts may mean cracked brackets later.

s10 4.3 setups are dirt cheap, I sold a 4.3 with a bad rod bearing, no intake but full serp setup including power steering pump and AC compressor for $50, and see similar on craigslist all the time.

the 4.3 serp setup bolts to most small blocks and has the AC compressor on the top drivers side and power steering below.

That's the same motor we had and the pad is to small to drill. We ended up making a bracket that used the two front manifold bolts and secured it to one of the long AC compressor bolts. its a little hard to see but its the silver painted bracket

the most important thing in this type of swap. All factory parts from the same rig so you have a lot simpler job of finding replacement parts if you need a replacement part.

Exactly, throw a belt, have a tensioner or bearing go south - the parts are easily available being stock GM apps.

Don't forget to get a water pump for the year of the brackets you have not the year of the motor you have. It should be a reverse rotation pump

Chevy Performance also has a Serpentine kit. It comes with all brackets, bolts, nuts, washers, belt, pulley, water pump, ac dummy pulley. Its not cheap, but its a no hassle bolt up system. You can also search the parts from the kit and get all the right parts you havent gotten yet. It even comes with the power steering pump.

The GM performance parts serpentine kit is the same brackets that are on a 90 Caprice FYI.
