Door glass questions
I have replaced all of the door and glass hardware and glass.
Problem is the glass will not stay against the front felt strip on the back side of the vent window which I think it should. This is causing the window to fall to the inside when going up and down. What have I missed here, I cant find anything to make the window glass stay in the forward felt? Thanks, Craig

Re: Door glass questions
Do you have the rear rail inside the door that help guide the window up and down? And is it set set in correctly onto the window regulator ?

Re: Door glass questions
Did you check the size of the door glass next to the old ? a lot of repro glass is smaller, you have to get the glass cut at a glass shop to get the correct size.

Re: Door glass questions
Yes I have the rear rail on the inside of the door and the regulator is inside that rail. It seems like there should be something that holds the glass up against the vent window rail but there is nothing.

Re: Door glass questions
Whats up James,
I did not compare the two, the glass fits the window opening but won't stay in the vent glass rail.

Re: Door glass questions
Since the back part of the window is tapered once you start rolling down the window the back part of the glass doesn't have anything pushing against it so it migrates towards the back of the door and then falls to the inside once it come out of the vent window rail.
I really feel like I'm missing something easy but I haven't found it yet!

Re: Door glass questions
if you have the rear piece of metal C channel that goes up and down inside of the back of the door , that is what holds the window forward .
it goes from the bottom of the window down into the door in front of the door latch and your window seal goes into it. you may have taken it out with the old window seal ? it has a bolt that holds it in at the bottom that is on the rear edge of the door . |

Re: Door glass questions
I have trashed the old doors but I did look inside and there was no metal C channel going in front of the latch and to the bottom of the door. I do have the felt that goes in front of the latch and to the bottom of the door and I secured it with a bolt but it's about an inch away from the glass.
I don't see this part on LMC either, is it something someone makes? Craig Quote:

Re: Door glass questions
I'm not explaining this very well so let me try again. The glass fits the window opening but once it starts to come down the back of the glass never touches the rear felt. Maybe I need to put a spacer between the felt and the door where the felt bolts to the back side of the door.
This may fix it but still not sure what is causing the problem, may be repo glass is not big enough as dually said?

Re: Door glass questions
Do you have the rear window guide track? From what I am seeing in the pics, it doesn't look like it. It runs from top to bottom at the back of the door, to hold the U channel felt piece. This and the front wing vent divider bar (which runs top to bottom) is what guides the lower window holder (the metal part the glass goes into).
Without this rear guide, you will never keep the window in the correct location.

Re: Door glass questions
I don't think I do, and my original doors didn't either because I check them to make sure I had all the parts on the new door that the old doors had. Of course the old doors felt was rotten away to nothing.
Does someone make this part, I haven't seen it on LMC

Re: Door glass questions
i don't know if anyone reproduces the metal rear window track .
if you don't have it then there is nothing to hold the felt against the glass and keep the window forward in the front track when you roll it down. i just took this out of my door to take a picture of it for you to see it what it looks like. it looks like both sides are the same left and right . |

Nope don't have those and the screw holes for them on the old doors were empty. Thanks again, I had 3 doors and none of them had those!

Re: Door glass questions
How mad could this get....?
I think I have a plan A and a plan B for you. Let me know if you don't get to find another. You may have a spare in England for the cost of postage to the US.

Re: Door glass questions
Love the color of your truck. I have 6 extra doors in PA from my build. They are in pretty bad shape if I find a good one of those I will be happy to send it to you. I can check this evening after work in the daylight.
