Re: Media blasting questions

i had a dustless blasting company come and blast my cab, what a mess. i have taken (2) 5 gallon buckets of glass muck out of my cab after they left. i had automotive restoration in Brookfield. WI dip and e coat the doors. fenders, frame and some misc parts they came back beautiful. i didnt do the cab since it was too big to fit the e coat line (52" height restriction) the frame and door especially all coated inside and out wit epoxy e-coat. i wouldnt dustless blast again for all the tea in china.

Re: Media blasting questions

I purchased one of Harbor freight 110lb pressurized abbrasive blasters they sell, and also one from Tractor Supply they are identical and the same company who makes them,
That being said i went on youtube and found modifications to make them work better (WAY BETTER) in fact! I use Black diamond "fine" Media and have an IR 80 gal 7.5 HP 2-stage compressor and then have it piggy backed to a Sears 40Gal 5.HP single stage compressor. with this set up i can run the Black diamond media for about 20-min or longer and i did all of my 58 Cameo Bed, Cab, Front fenders, this system i have has worked out great, and as Crazy as this sounds, I enjoy media blasting Lol..
havent had any warpage at all, and i would say yes, keep the nozzle moving and at an angle,i think a key factor also is the metal is a heavier Gage steel on these year trucks!
it would probably do some Damage to my Wifes KIA, Lol....

Re: Media blasting questions

I seen in an old Truckin Magazine years ago an article on sand blasting and cleaning items on the authors truck, in the article the guy mentioned a cheap HF Pneumatic Gasket scraper, & a vibrating box like thing ( have no clue what it would be used for?)Trying to Keep this post Clean!!!! anyway, he used the Gasket scraper to scrape all the old Tar
from inside the wheel wells and this vibrating box thing and would attach it to the inside and around areas of his cab and leave it vibrating to shake all the loose sand from the nooks and crannies
I bought one of the HF Gasket Scraper and have to say was the Best! 9 Bucks i had spent!!
Umm, dont have the vibrating Box thing tho Lol....but did think it was kind of a Genius Idea!

Re: Media blasting questions

nice to know the insides of your doors and under brackets, inside fender braces are covered in epoxy.
i see your doors had the factory 40 mirrors option...
i swear mine had 100 mirror holes in them after they came back from the blaster.
west coast trucker mirrors were very popular in the 70s & 80s

Re: Media blasting questions

The guy I build dry ice manufacturing plants for has an industrial wet blaster on a trailer rig. He was going to set up a mobile service for hotrods in Michigan and I guess just never got around to it. He said I could use it anytime I wanted so maybe I'll give it a try. Thanks for all the info guys. I think this is the best AD forum. Everyone here is polite and excepting of others ideas. Maybe the rest of the country can catch on. Thank you for your time.
