Re: What is the BEST all around Repair Manual for our Trucks?
Do shop techs use the shop-owned computers or at least self-owned computers dedicated to their work? If you have an old machine you can put in your garage, well and fine. But my personal computer--the one I not only use for things like this board but also my real jobs--is something I can't risk out in the heat, grease, dirt and wet, even if I had a keyboard cover. So the books go out to the garage/tractor shed/shadetree.
And I have found no substitute for the factory manuals. Yes, there are useful Youtube vids that show someone else doing it, but many of them are worse that useless: I have seen ones that are not only dangerous to the vehicles but also to me.

Re: What is the BEST all around Repair Manual for our Trucks?
Most of the stuff I need to do on my truck, I already know, having been a mechanic in those days. If I need to look something up, I use the downloaded versions that Hatzie has uploaded. I can remember what I read before I get back out to the truck, usually. The guys across the street are in their 30s, and when they work on their vehicles they use a YouTube video and follow along. Seem to work for them. They're both linemen and should just take their vehicles to a shop, given the obscene gobs of money they make. Hat's off to them for doing such a dangerous job, they deserve that money!
