Re: 72 Not sure what to call it yet resto!

Looks awesome!!!! Yes you may have to shim the cab and bed a little, The metal saddles on the frame tend to droop a little over time, Maybe from a heavy load or who knows what. But no big deal, If you do not have any shims that are big enough you can always cut a few BIG flat whashers.

Re: 72 Not sure what to call it yet resto!

Hey Chris, your truck looks great! I'm curious about the painting order of your cab? My truck will be exact scheme with red instead of medium blue. Did you shoot the whole inside first, then tape it off shoot the white roof and sides tape if off and shoot the blue? No issues with painting the doors off the cab? did you prefit everything and drill alignment holes? I'm sorry about all the questions but I figured you have just done all the things I'm getting ready to do so I thought I would ask.

One more thing, you have kicked butt on this paint and assembly!

Yeah thats what i have under it now are some large 1/2 fender washers. I guess once the cab and bed are correct I can bring the radiator support up a little if I have to. Very time consuming... I'll let you know what I end up with.

Thanks, I have been working on this thing every minute for the last well... 4 months it is now. Thankfully I have two big Masonry jobs coming together so I can get a break!

Mike I did it just like you said... shot the inside of the cab first. Taped it off shot the exterior white, taped and shot the blue. Then unmask and clear everything.
I did NOT prefit things like I should have but it looks like all the trim will work out okay anyway. It had upper on it when I got it.
The truck originally had the lower so the holes just had to be redrilled.

The doors we hung in the booth and shot just like the rest of it. No problems..
The trim masks any small amount you may get off on your tape line anyway. This has been my job more or less for the last few months... I'm not really going all that fast... I know I need a break from it! (just a small one)

Re: 72 Not sure what to call it yet resto!

Here are the only two I have until I can roll her outside this weekend... they both suck sorry. At least you get an idea where it's headed...

The rear at the center is measuring 29 7/8 or 30 at the center-to the floor. The front is about 29 I think without all the stuff on yet. How does that sound??? hmmm.

Thanks Hector! We sanded and buffed like crazy... Used the 3M 1500,2000 and 3000 foam trizact pad followed with 3 stages of the 3M finese polish system. I'm really proud of it considering it's a home job. I mean we have a nice downdraft that makes the booth pretty decent. So you can get nice clean work to start with anyway... Or in my case nice clean runs!

Hector I was lucky enough to catch all the trim on sale at Brothers (drop shipped from Mar-k)!!! I got everything in black. The trim really sets off the colors and makes it look great. I was suprised how much better everything looks when you stick the trim up against it.
A couple of my tape lines got off a little so thankfully I do have the trim going on.
