Re: Dirty Dianah (No)... Bagged 72 Stepside/LSx/T56

Productive day planned - but before I tell you about today, let me share with you what we completed yesterday! IT was a great day!

Fuel System is compete! Woohoo!

So, all of this:

(and actually, a WHOLE lot more -6AN and -8AN fittings and hoses/aluminum line), and we are here:

Please remember that the wires that you see bundled up back here are from the cab and inside the engine compartment. None of these wires live back here, but they had to while the cab is off.

Re: Dirty Dianah (No)... Bagged 72 Stepside/LSx/T56

Cab repair was the flavor of yesterday.

We were able to get a lot of that done on the Dragon frame. The passenger side cowl, and the firewall were completed with the patches.

Take a look:

Just so you know, I cut the infected area out, and Walter made a piece from C10 scrap metal to fill it in. That shows that we are being green and recycling (reducing our carbon footprint ).

Beginning on the firewall. Take a look at my floor. (This is coming out)

You can kind of see my GMC Sierra in the background (red)

Walt is feeling good about what we have done so far

Cleaning the welds...

All done! Will clean and paint after test fitting.

Re: Dirty Dianah (No)... Bagged 72 Stepside/LSx/T56

Test fit cab on frame after the new modifications (FPR, trans/engine/exhaust). All fittings are good.

Energy Suspension (Poly) - for cab and core support

Chrissy loves Dirty D

The FPR Mount is not an issue. That and the AN fittings are unaffected.

Getting ready to cut out the floor pans, as well as trim the trans tunnel a little bit at the back (see marking). We also established my desired seating position, and I have a nice surprise in store for you guys...

Whatever color it is will be a flat or satin finish. My focus is on the underpinnings and drivetrain.

Slight change of plans. Going to be looking at a replacement cab on Friday. This should save time on repairs and the like...keeping fingers crossed.

OH man take a magnet with you, people lie like a big dog, take it slow and look at it a long long time, look and look untill you find all the flaws, you will be glad you took alot of time looking at it.

^This. My pops does a lot of restorations on these old trucks and almost every cab has rust issues. Looks like you guys have fixed most of the problem spots.

Places to REALLY look at are around The drip rail, inner lip around the top windshield (where the rearview mirror mounts), outer lip around the entire windshield (Pay very special attention to the corners), and the pinch seam where the wires are usually placed on the firewall (where yours has the rust in the pictures above)

The cab corners, floor pans, inner and outer rockers, and the bottom of the rain tray/cowl panel are all common fixes. Once you move to the dog house, the passenger inner fender under the battery tray always rots out, and I have seen a growing number of rotted radiator supports on the same side under the battery tray. Bottoms of the fenders usually have some too.

Thanks for the info. I am aware of the Normal fixes like the rockers etc. the reason we decided on another cab is upon closer inspection the top of the a pillars and all the way across the windshield and down the drip rails is extremely rotten previous owner just filled it with silicone and bondo when we were relocating the cab back on the frame we notice a crack and started digging and discovered the extent. For cost and time restraints we are going to get a cab from a friend of mine that only needs rockers and it comes with new ones. It will be much easier and faster to repair and get her back on the road not to mention a lot safer to boot

Anytime.

Be sure to inspect the same areas. I bought a cab that was the same way. It ended up having the same issues around the windshield with the caulking and bondo. I completely understand getting another cab over fixing that area. It isn't impossible to fix, but it is very time consuming

Re: Dirty Dianah (No)... Bagged 72 Stepside/LSx/T56

Thanks guys! Walt and I will have fun getting this one together. One thing I forgot to post is my fuel cell and the filler door. I got this idea from Walt when I told him what I wanted to do in the interior.

Laid out, will be above the frame, just like the exhaust. Great fab work Walt.
