Re: Big Rat's 1979 C10 High School Hot Rod Restooo

Tsup doods! So, haven't gotten anything done except growing a beard for Movember and working on the old VeeDerb diesel that blew the ol turbo. Man I'll take workin on 'ol skool detroit steel over that damn new age "lets see how much crap we can stuff into one square foot" modern technolicoligacalificated germanian engineering! I've been spending quite a bit of my spare time on the car and trying to figure out how to ponzi my way into expendable income... Any ideas that don't involve prison time?!

Oh and welcome souza77777777777777777777777777! I need to get this party rolling again! This was a really lively thread before I got lazy with laziness. The apple juice was something, uh, I can't even remember now! I think it was a chemical stripper/consumption remark that some goon(me) said while playing hide and go seek with wrenchy the wrench. I'm going to have to go read back through my own build thread just to get myself caught back up with... myself.

Boatin season is over boys, time to get back to wrenchin!

You write like I think, I can't get my mind to slow down enough to type what I'm thinking. Either that or my fingers don't/can't/won't hit the keys fast enough to keep up with my brain. Your sense of humor is addictive! Read about the apple juice on page ten and had to go back through the whole thread to figure it all out.......

Re: Big Rat's 1979 C10 High School Hot Rod Restooo

You left us for boatin season? Come on dude. Really? Man boat are bad for ya. There are only two good days with owning a boat. One when you buy it and when you sell it. I hope it's a yacht, lol. I hope you fish with your boat if not then what is there to do with a boat. I mean you can't lower it or lift it. You can race them but still its a boat.

Glad to see ya back in action. Hope that you gets lots done for us all to admire and enjoy. Happy to have you rocking back.......Now for some apple juice.

Re: Big Rat's 1979 C10 High School Hot Rod Restooo

I'm excited to get back to work on the truck. Sometimes I can't even believe the stupidity that vomits out onto this keyboard. Such an immense waste of bandwidth. At least we all be classy like minded individuals with good taste that know good things when we see them. Get the VW fixed and I can get back to the proper garage mekanickin!

This is the german nightmare I've been trying to work on. Could we please stuff a couple more things around the turbo and the firewall?! Just a thought, maybe......... Put the damn turbo in front of the motor so I don't have to lay on the ground for 2 years straight!

Did you guys know that the peoples car came with an on board cannon?!

I WIN!!! Only took me 7 weeks!!!

So... I went to the mechanic academy in search of answers and have been searching through my plethora of manuals and infinite information on the interweb machine, and I still can't seem to figure out what the devil is the issue here?!?!?!?!?!

Yeah, chunks missing is a normal thing. It reduces the weight exponentially making the spool time amazingly amazing. Plus it sounds like a kazoo, which is just cool. Turbos sound so dumb when they whistle.

You made it back! Thought you got cuffed, stuffed and put away for the long haul for all that photography shootin in the big rig.
Only way to fix that turbo is to stuff more cylinders in between them fenders on that german thinga-ma-bob.
Yup, stuff a Chevy V8 in there. It'll save time and frustration.

Get ta Wrenchin' !!!

Re: Big Rat's 1979 C10 High School Hot Rod Restooo

Something came in and out of the cylinder, then out the exhaust.. I'd check compression, could be a ring, could be something that was left in the airbox and finally ingested. Either way you need a new exhaust wheel of you're planning on rebuilding yourself. If something came in the cold side of the turbo it too will be damaged and need replacing. Regardless turbos aren't cheap and you don't want a repeat of the same circumstances.... I wouldn't just throw another turbo at it without knowing what the cause was.

Ha! No kidding. After careful consideration I have decided I am getting rid of any vehicle I have that carries a payment. No more Jetta, no more Escalade, much more money for the two trucks and the 'ol nova. Hopefully that'll loosen up the budget a titch and dump some funds into this build! Beater mini-van, HERE I COME!!!

Re: Big Rat's 1979 C10 High School Hot Rod Restooo

Hi. I'm still working on the picture issue in post 83 of this ridiculousness. The turkey fuel from yesterday finally soaked in and I've been having this craving to feed my 6 month iron deficiency, so I headed out to the garage.

I decided to hit the other frame rail. The passenger side is clean back to the rear bump stops so lets see how far I can get with this side today.

Dumped a lil apple juice on, and the filth ran right off...

and revealed this nasty garbage!

another one bites the garbage can to the dump. 12500 rpm? Oops. My grinder goes 12648 rpm(I counted), probably why I lost all those little wire ties.

Let us take a moment to pray to the god of rod knocks and other unusual engine noises that this block is still usable. I need to tear it apart to seeeeeee if it is okay or if I must forge a new block out of iron using brawn and might.

Are you going to find a donor section of frame to replace the stressed out area that is cracked and broken for the steering box?
What is that key board looking thing?
Other than exposing the cracks around the steering box the rest of the frame is straight and damage free.?!?..

Glad to see you back at it! Bummer deal on the frame cracks but you'll sort it out. What's the story on the block?
I believe the keyboard looking thing is the underbelly of the VeeWee or it's just a really weird keyboard.

Wow, you have a lot of projects, hope you have a lot of time, love trucks as we all do but waiting for the Nova, just finished one for a buddy. That poor truck looks like it has seen some rough days and put away wet. Chevy's only weak point the frame at the steering box. Keep up the good work and entertainment, good luck man.

The frame is exquisite! Like a tall glass of apple joose! I do plan on replacing that section. Just figured I'd finish cleaning the frame. I don't want to get overwhelmed. Kinda doing the one thing at a time deal, besides the jetta, and the driveway, oh and the working, blah blah blah. only that one thing... FOCUS! GOTTA FOCUS!!! Oh and the keyboard thing... jlsanborn nailed it, german engineered dust cover engine under tray wind screen aerodynamicasizer.

Thanks man. Yeah I've been being lazy and undermotivated. Getting back into the groove. That is the big cam engine that the machine shop forgot to install the oil return plug in when I built it back in high school. You guys should've heard the overlap on that thing. It was so TOO MUCH cam for that engine, but it sounded so not like a 4banger!!! 4 bolt main, bored .030 over, Keith Black hypereutectic pistons, Lunati cam, Pete Jackson noisy gear drive. The top end was all Vortec goods. Nothing real special, but it was really fun to build and ran like a slightly overweight individual to a delicate pastry delight! In fact it kept up with a well built GSX back in the day. Couldn't really keep traction but even the GSX guy was impressed. One day, hopefully soon, she'll lope again.

Thanks! I have no time! It sucks! I have projects that I want to do, and projects that I HAVE to do. I'm dying to do the nova! I have big plans for it. 502 ci at minimum. Thinkin more along a stroker. 540 or so. Don't want to get stuck with not enough cubes! Mini tubbed, 4l80e non-electric, Cal-Trac ladder bars, fully built 8.5" rear end with Moser and Strange Engineered goods, I could go on, and on, and on!!! Unfortunately, I have a mortgage and a brady bunch, so, I have to be patient, that is until I sell some of this crap(cars with payments) then the parts can start coming in.

Ya, me too, mortgage and twins so twice the cost for everything for 17 years now, but all cool, that is why our builds are called projects right, plus I build any kind of hotrod, Muscle car or 2wd to Mudracer year round to pay for my projects, which haha I get about 23% of now, payin for the kids first. Watching your projects, get back at them on the cheap easy stuff inbetween cash and keep them going.

You know, It'd be a good time for a "Z" in the frame when you fix that, get it a little lower.... just sayin', and stuff.
