Re: What did you do WITH your truck today?

I realized yesterday that it costs me less to insure this truck for a year than it costs to rent a truck for a day. Having a cool old truck that works is the best.

Yes, it is!
I find it interesting you are using Photobucket to park your pics. They're still holding mine hostage.

Re: What did you do WITH your truck today?

Took a nice long drive in the country, saw some beautiful little towns. Stopped to check out the shop and salvage operation of a friend of mine, brought home another Triumph project. Fantastic start to the weekend, put me in a nice relaxed Christmassy mood ... took 20 minutes to convince him (and his girlfriend) that the truck isn't for sale, turns out they've been looking for something similar for a while.

Dig the Triumph. I had a T100 I scramblered out. My nephew laid it down and it slid under a guard rail. I bought another one, it's getting heavily modified since I build custom bikes for a living.

Re: What did you do WITH your truck today?

I started mine up today as I do every week during cold weather. I keep my truck in an offsite building and it’s always great to sit in it and let it warm up. We are stuck in a cold spell with some snow which is rare for around here. A week ago it was 70.

Re: What did you do WITH your truck today?

Well, I'm gonna try this again.
On Friday last I took a drive with my truck from the Walkingbear, east of Redding Ca. to Prineville Or. back to Fawn Lodge to rest up on Saturday. About a seven hundred or so mile round trip. The idea was to look at a Studebaker Pickup that was for sale there. Put half down on it and will pick it up early next month. Hopefully 97 won't be too nasty by then. Can't do it any sooner though wish I could.

Anyway, as a shakedown for the truck, it was flawless. The truck got decent mileage and performed beautifully. I was very pleased with it.

There's an issue with the wiring on the Dimmer Switch I have to figure out. Loose wires or something. Still, the engine ran like a top. Burned about half a quart of oil though. That number one cylinder is just going to have to be looked at I suppose. Still, we climbed over five thousand feet and the old man had no trouble doing the speed limit. I'm hoping it will be able to make the trip to Ocean Shores Wa. in the spring. We will see what happens. I love these old Chevy's. They were made for full-sized Americans and are very comfortable to drive. Annie, my canine copilot also enjoyed the trip considerably.

Re: What did you do WITH your truck today?

Thank Stude,

Yesterday was a bit of a rare day, my wife decided to go with me and hangout all day. Of course the show being held at the Gulf Coast largest shopping mall might have helped.....she was a good sport and it only cost me about $100.

Re: What did you do WITH your truck today?

Well, took the old man on a seven hundred mile jaunt. We went from Fawn Lodge to Lincoln Ca to pick up a '54 Spartan Imperial Mansion. She's a 43' park model trailer. No pictures, sadly. My tablet has died. Actually the fourth ttrip madte to retrieve this trailer. The previous three were to prepare the old lady for the road. She had been residing in the countryside outside of Lincoln since 1969, as far as we can tell.

The truck handled the load with aplomb. We had some serious side winds in Lincoln through to Chico, a hundred miles or so. They made the old lady wag her tail like a happy dog! the truck's suspension didn't much like that. Especially since the trailer is a bit under twice the weight of the truck. All the same, went slow and let everyone pass where I could. Had to replace a bad wheel in Los Molinos, about two thirds of the trip home. Other than that, a long, and uneventful trip. I like those.

Once he was on home turf though, the old man decided to be naughty. I had everything needed for a week's work loaded up, along with my utility box trailer hitched on, headed back to Oak Run, when the volt meter pegged at discharge. Figuring something had just come unplugged, I pulled over to do a (hopefully) quick fix. Suffice it to say it wasn't a quick fix and I was stranded for three days. Thankfully my friend Dave loaned me the Studebaker truck I traded for this truck and I was able to get all my personal things, tools, and trailer back to the lodge. Hence, I was able to deal with the situation with some comfort at least.

Best laid plans, etc, etc, etc...

Re: What did you do WITH your truck today?

Well, I got an eviction notice in Fawn Lodge. So had to move my Imperial from there to Oak Run.

She was a perfect lady and the old man had little trouble with her eight thousand pounds of mass except for two long, steep 8% grades. We went down Buckhorn and up Carpenter's grades with the patience of a snail. however, there were no dramatics or problems. My old man just chugged up to the top. Had to take a break half-way down Buckhorn to let my brakes cool though. At one point we crossed a causeway and bridge with stiff cross-winds and they were both solid as a rock, no equalizer no sway bars! I LOVE this old truck!
