Re: Sparky's 1978 Silverado Build "Addiction"

Pictures:
1. Getting an idea of what will be required to make the harness function with this setup.
2. Had to drill and tap one of the 98-2002 Camaro low mount alternator adapter bolts from Dirty Dingo.
3. Dirty Dingo brackets were also used for the 98-2002 Camaro high mount Power Steering pump w/ reservoir. I ordered the pulley tonight.

Once everything is figured out (rerouting of wiring, coils relocated) and I'm satisfied, I will pull the engine and paint it. Intake, valve covers, heads, valley tray, block, water pump and the oil pan will all be painted and reinstalled. Pulleys will remain black and brackets aluminum in color.

Oh yes, since this is a "78" it will be CORPORATE BLUE! I think that color will pop against the crimson red of the truck.

Thanks Mike

I bought my GM corporate blue paint from Bill Hirsch if you haven't already found some.
Can't wait to see how this one turns out with the ls engine.

Re: Sparky's 1978 Silverado Build "Addiction"

I wasn't expecting to do much this evening with the 78, however, I was surprised to find a package from Michigan Motorsports containing coil brackets and the associated wiring harness - so, I had something to do tonight. I also picked up a pulley for the 1998-2002 Camaro LS1 power steering pump earlier today that I was going to install later this week. I ended up pressing on the power steering pulley then put together the coil relocation brackets and checked out the wiring harness. Fun fun!!! Mike

Re: Sparky's 1978 Silverado Build "Addiction"

No way Sir! I'd be happy to have it pulled and painted by the end of the week. Once the weather breaks and we get back into the 20s, I'll have to work on the Household Commanders master bath - not gonna cut backer cement board inside the the house or her garage, too dusty!!

One of the things I really like about the LS motors is the super short spark plug wires. Mounting the coils on top of the valve covers is not aesthetically pleasing to some but I like how neat and clean and out of the way the wiring harness is with them on the valve covers.

Had a 79 C20 on the farm with a blue 350. It was original.
The color looked just like the 302 in my 1980 Ford LTD.

Awesome work and nice pieces! I painted the 5.3 in my 71 Camaro ford blue. (It actually used to be trophy blue but duplicolor has changed the name)

Re: Sparky's 1978 Silverado Build "Addiction"

If any of you missed it on page 11, I'm more or less following what "dayj1" http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=668385 in his 4.8L build thread. Yesterday, I worked first on the you Dirty Dingo LS trans x-member. I didn't like the how the engine was sitting in the frame so I did some modifying of the x-member. I also drilled a hole for the MAP sensor in the throttle body. I think I have all my sensors now worked out. next is adapting the wiring harness to fit the new configuration. Thanks Mike

Pictures:
1. Original location of trans x-member plate.
2. Trans x-member ready for welding.
3. Test fitting the trans...good to go.
4. Drilled hole for MAP sensor.
5. MAP installed.

Mongo, I did see that! I don’t know which way to go, I might just pull it through the valve cover with a small cone filter or in the top of the throttle body.

I got my parts from Delmo’s Speed shop.

Jonathon told me that the pass side is metered air and has to go thru the throttle.. without it being metered the drivers side going to the back of the intake will suck major air into the intake ,causing a lean condition..if I remember correctly

Re: Sparky's 1978 Silverado Build "Addiction"

Tonight I spent some time taking the wiring loom off the harness and reorganizing the wires for this set-up. The truck harness has a big loop in it on top of the truck intake, so, by taking the loom off, I was able to back out wires and move them around so that it's better organized.

Mango, you're correct on the PCV.

Thanks Mike
