Re: '62 GMC Suburban "Rust"oration, Patina Build.....

After removing the Radiator support, I was able to lower the body all the way onto the frame !!
-
-
I think I am good with how the rear of the body is sitting. The rear cross-section (where the gate mounts to) it laying perfectly on the chassis. Drill some holes and add a body mount ... done.

-
Full, uncut Spring shown here. Once the weight of the wood floors, all three rows of seats, fuel tank, etc., I think the preload height should be right on !!!
-

-
-
Glad that floor modification will not be that extreme ... Kids will have only a small hump to climb over ....

Re: '62 GMC Suburban "Rust"oration, Patina Build.....

The front however, will need to come down a bit.

The front floor braces will be notched around the frame to allow the body to drop another 4-5 inches.

I am not concerned with doing a massive "body drop". I just want the body to sit low enough without raising or modifying the front metal section of the body. Bad enough my wood floor has to be modified

I have plenty of room, and the trans to tunnel clearance is huge ....

Re: '62 GMC Suburban "Rust"oration, Patina Build.....

Today was a long day, so Burb time was short....More of an inspection day !

Looks like a 3" "mini body drop" will take place in the front and middle floor supports ...
-
-

-
-
EXHAUST is almost perfect ....
-
-

-
-

-
-
Here you can see where the 3" will be need ...
-
-

-
-
And a little here as well ....
-
-

-

-
-

-
-
Yes, there is some RUSt .... but nearly as bad as Burb #1

Re: '62 GMC Suburban "Rust"oration, Patina Build.....

Back on it this evening !!

I'm headed out to ARIZONA this weekend to hang with a childhood friend (baby brutha) ... So I needed to get the body down on the frame before I left ... Just to ease my mind

We did some notching of the floor braces, and some trimming of the fenderwells ... A little at a time !!

Hey John - hope you guy's had a good weekend in the desert.

I'm loving the tail-dragger stance in the one pic.

What's the target for the final look with the static drop? Even, raked, or down in the back?

Either way can't lose - it will be cool.

Chased rust repairs ALL weekend in the PS of the cab floor and kick panel... it's just a matter of T I M E.

Keep rock'n,

Re: '62 GMC Suburban "Rust"oration, Patina Build.....

Last week, Joe showed up again to help out ...

I need to clearance the front inner fenderwells, so ... as with the rear, I removed the shocks, coils, and bump stops to drop suspension to lowest point for upper a-arm clearance.

I may just remove them all together, but for now ... its little cuts at a time ...

Re: '62 GMC Suburban "Rust"oration, Patina Build.....

Back to the rear ....

The rear section of the frame was modified for clearance to be able to use the OG mounting location.

The inner 'bulge' was removed, and plated.

-
-

-
-

-
-
The PASS side of the floor is shaped a little different than the DRIVERS side (entrance to rear seats) ... it hung slightly lower right where the frame rail ran, not by much ... but enough to keep the body from dropping into position.

Re: '62 GMC Suburban "Rust"oration, Patina Build.....

Today, I moved to the front.

I moved the front mounting location in board to where the front floor brace, and center brace intersect, this provides a strong mounting point, even more so than the stock location. The load it support better IMO ....
-
-

-
-

-
-
Shown here you can see how much further in the mount it. I dropped a sleeve into the brace to prevent crushing. I will also adding a recessed floor mounting 'pocket' later ...
