We have a lot of wild flowers on the property and are cultivating more . I even keep milkweed. My neighbors with their manicured lawn must hate when the seeds start growing in their lawn .

Re: Random Photos ‘You took’

Went for a drive yesterday. Anyone recognize this from a popular TV show awhile back?

We were going to have lunch at the Brick but chose another neat place, we thought. Service was horrible (food good) they wanted to comp us our lunch. We told them no. Our waiter was new and we didn’t want him having lose it out of his tips or something. We heard the lady who looked to be in charge sort of whisper to him … They paid , he looked relieved

Well, my day didn't start out too good this morning. I have been having trouble with Raccoons around here so I trap them in the live trap and re-locate them a long ways away. I went out to check the trap early this morning and lo and behold, there to greet me is a Skunk..... I got on the internet and looked up information on how to deal with it. One seemingly knowledgeable guy said to hold an old blanket up in front of you, walk up to the trap and lay the blanket over the trap. That way he won't be able to see you and it will be dark in there and the Skunk will feel safe. Then you pick the blanket and trap up and place it in the back of your vehicle. Take it to where you want to release it and put the opening of the trap up against some weeds so when the skunk comes out he can go straight into the weeds. It was a little hairy trying to get the door of the trap open and hold the blanket in place. When I finally got the door open he didn't come out. I'm standing there in this uncomfortable position saying "Come out of there you little sucker". I finally see a black nose poking out and hoping it will go into the weeds and not around the side of the trap. I move the door a little bit and he scurried straight ahead into the weeds. I stood still until I could see the weeds moving further down the embankment. I put the trap back into the back of the Dually, wiped the sweat off of my brow, and headed back home.

Re: Random Photos ‘You took’

I had to look that same information up. A year or two ago I spotted a skunk at dusk back near the screenhouse where it is bushy. Nope, it was two. Oh no, better do something before we have a family. Nope, too late! Three little ones come scampering along following mom & dad under the screenhouse. What now? How do you get five at once? I pondered, considered blocking them from getting under there, never did anything. Never saw them again. It was the neighbor's trash situation that draws them. He and I talked about different things to try, all for me to do as if the skunks were only "my" problem.

A couple months ago my neighbor asks, "Been smelling skunk any?". I had noticed a faint smell, wondered if my new neighbor smoked weed, or maybe him. Then he goes on to tell me how the skunks have been over there all along, making it sound like they aren't a problem, like they adopted them. He says his wife has been feeding the babies. Awww... Isn't that cute? NO! They need to find a better place to live. I need to skunk-proof

OK, I remember show. Saw it couple times. I was less of a TV watcher back then than what I do now...which is still not much.

Re: Random Photos ‘You took’

I had an appointment one morning last week and I decided to spend the rest of the day along the Potomac River on the C&O Canal at Taylor's Landing. I had looked at buying a house there, then decided against. I really like that spot and wish I could buy one of the few placed down there. The two cabins side by side, it's the one on the right. If I could have bought both I'd be living there. That's the canal bed the bridge crosses and I'm standing on the tow path

This is where they built a culvert along the canal for a creek to run under it and into the river. It also served as a bridge, creek way down there on one side and canal on the other

When I started to read this, I had to double check that it wasn't in the "goof ups" thread. Good to know this method, if I get a skunk around here. That smell is usually from one of my neighbors.

I had a skunk around here. I never saw him but I sure smelled him. They are stinkier than my Aunt Martha's toilet. And that's pretty stinky.

I was concerned because my dog would go ballistic and I didn't want him to get sprayed. Nobody wants that. I was glad when it went away.

Probably, The digging has been where I cut the Ash trees down and filled the holes after the stumps were ground down..

Nope, no Armadillos. My brother has them down in Southern Georgia and they do some serious digging. That and the Gopher Tortoise, he has those too.
