Re: 86 squarebody made2drag
probably not my favorite way or the smartest way to gain tire clearance....but the bedliner was a major roadblock/obstacle to overcome which kind of made the decision. before i cut i thought really hard on whether it would ever hinder me carrying anything... i couldnt think of anything so, out came the jig saw. i gained 1 1/2 inches of drop and the helper springs keep the axle off the notch so i dont even need bumpstops....i can ride aired all the way out...

Re: 86 squarebody made2drag
for anyone out there that wants to lay their truck out but doesnt want to cut their bed in fear of not being able to haul stuff...here you go...i cut 3 scrap 2x4's and threw this together to clear the notches. i plan on screwing a full sheet of plywood to the framing to be able to carry anything any other truck can carry. when i dont need it in the bed, i can store it in the shed. a full sheet should fit.

Re: 86 squarebody made2drag
wat we do a lot here to keep the bed from dinging up in general is make a floor out of a ruff type of concrete pooring plywood and make boxes to go over the wheelwhells , the stuff is pretty waterproof
doing the same thing with the 2x4's to raise the floor a little and you whont get mud slung up againts the rearwindow from the opening in the original wheelwells that way you are allso still able to put a bedcover over it all

Re: 86 squarebody made2drag
just make sure you either prevent anything from falling in between the fender and the boxes or make the boxes so you can open them to clean the out ...... else the whole sides will fill up with a mudcake in youre case

Re: 86 squarebody made2drag
i cut the rectangle out and saved it. if i ever wanted to cut the notches out and weld 4 inch square tubing to make the frame close to stock again, i can weld the bed floor back in.
on the fender well cut outs....i cut them out but went back and made the holes bigger...i do have all the peices though

Re: 86 squarebody made2drag
i wonder if you could just weld in some pieces of one trailerfender in the hole , it doesnt look like it needs mush extra room over the stock inner fender

Re: 86 squarebody made2drag
maybe....so far it doesnt bother me or hinder me in any way if i just leave it like it is. next time i see a trailer fender i'll measure and see if there is a possiblity...that could be the ticket

Re: 86 squarebody made2drag
id say build a steel 2x4 frame and bolt a sheet of diamond plate aluminum on top. you could even incorporate some aluminum ramps to attach to it and air down and drive up! it would work great

Re: 86 squarebody made2drag
Im wanting to do a full floor above the tires when air'd out. I dont have to have tubs since the 4 wheeler is 50" wide front and back so it cant just fit between the tires anyways. The diamond plate would be awesome to do for a floor, just got to weld a frame up to the bed with some square tubing or something. That way I could even leave my fuel cell under the diamond plate and hinge it 1/2 way or something to get to it if I need, same with my air tank.
