Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

Tonight after working on a customer's truck after work, I decided I had to do some thing to my truck. I fit and installed my fuel neck filler. I was hoping to have it turn out a shiny metal mirror like the pros, but not exactly. I'm happy with it. The patch I purchased from Infanti Machine, which I later found out was a site vendor. Excellent, excellent customer service and products. Here it is.

Just noticed your sleeper signature... 6 cylinder automatic... I guess it's accurate, but a little understated.

Actually, it only uses oil when you go over on an oil change.

Thanks Cam. I flipped the LH door over today, sanded it again, and etch primed, then seal primed it. I edged the RH door and will hang it today. I'm stuck now. I'm just about set on trying to give the body work a quickie, bolt all the panels on, mask off what needs to be and spray it red/orange and be done with it. IDK at this point, but I have to do something soon.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

This primer is really irritating me! It doesn't seem to want to fully dry for 2-3 days. I'm about ready to dump it on the junk pile! That's what I get for buying it off clist.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

make a room / plastic tent thats pretty mush closed off from outside air , get an old but working window aircounit and put that on a chair inside the room with a big bucket underneat and leave it to run , it will pull all the moist out of the air condences it and drops it in the bucket , dont be suprized if it draws 3 full buckets of water out of the room

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

I'd do that if I had the room inside or the extra time. I'm going to be switching to filler primer now that the real body work needs to start. We'll see how this week goes for progress. It's got to get done.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

I got the doors on the cab now! Of course the great primer I used is taking for ever to dry. Due to my lack of space, they couldn't sit where I had them to dry for a week. So when my brother placed them against the wall, what ever they were touching eventually smeared the primer. Nice huh? When I flipped the RH door to edge it, the boxes I sat the door on stuck to the out side skin. So now I've decided I will be completing some body work and just painting the truck. Fun fun. I did purchase new filler primer too. This old stuff is not for Iowa.

The other day Mathew (Brothers69C10) and I took my radiator support and inner fenders to get blasted. The guy called the other night and said he had them done. I had Mathew go pick them up since it was supposed to rain. They turned out nice. I have some rust to repair on the inner fenders, but not too bad.

Thanks Joe. 6.0 parts do get pricey.

Call 967-4125 and ask for Bob. It is Pinkerton sand blasting in Altoona. He only charged me $40 for the support and two inner fenders.

I hung the LH fender the other night. Let me know what you think of the rear of the wheel well opening. It looks to me like the fender needs twisted to be in line with the body. What do you think?

just a question as my truck is too rotted to tell, did the rocker panels always sit in much further than the door and fender or is it just the angle of the picture.

I think I need to adjust the door some more. I hung the doors my self the other night. Plus this cab has had rockers installed on it so who knows how good of a job they did installing them.
