Re: John's Project
The motor is done. The guy is still kind of messing with the carb a little bit. He said it was still running a little rich. I don't think he's in a big hurry since I'm not in one either. Hopefully Friday, or next Monday I should be able to work on it, and at least get the old motor out.

Re: John's Project
Dude, your cam will be broken in within the first 30 minutes if it's a flat tappet, but your cylinders will need about 1500 miles to be safe. He'd need to run the engine roughly 24 hrs to achieve that and vary the rpms. If he doesn't have the set up for that, I'd plan on a break-in period.

Re: John's Project
He has a full engine stand set up with a radiator, and everything. I know there will still be a break in period, but a lot of the bugs will already be worked out when I get it in.

Re: John's Project
That takes some of the work out of it. . I hate that first 20mins of break-in. My motor came with the cam broke in to. I think it's the best way to go.

Re: John's Project
Yeah you definitely want someone who knows what they're doing to break in your camshaft. Just cranking the engine too long trying to start it up can ruin the cam.

Re: John's Project
Yeah this guy knows what he's doing. He has been doing engines all his life, and I have known him for 27 years.
I'm not sure if it's a roller cam or not. It's the Comp Cam's Thumpr cam. Last edited by JohnC; 09-12-2009 at 08:17 AM. |

don't get my hopes up!
That pretty much covers it! I'm thinking he might spend some quality time with your truck. Better put it in the garage! |

Re: John's Project
OK since the cat's out of the bag. I did spend some quality time with the truck yesterday. Didn't take pics because the battery was dead on the camera. Yeah yeah I don't want to hear it about that.
I have the engine and tranny ready to pull out. Everything is unbolted and and unplugged. Just forgot to have Holly help me get the hood off, and get a yoke to stick in the tranny. So I'll get that done this week, and be ready to do some cleaning, and make a new home for the new engine. Last edited by JohnC; 09-29-2009 at 09:43 AM. |

Re: John's Project
Man I tried because I knew nobody would believe me. Walking out to the garage turned the camera on, and nothing. So I'll take home some batteries tonight, and get some pics.
