Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!

Actually, if you check the upper edge of the windshield, and roof line you can see it has been crunched....hard to say how these old trucks may have been scabbed together

The medium-duty truck I see that Justin Hayward (and then his lover) is driving appears to be either a 1967 or '68 (or from '69-'72 if the bow tie is blue) Chevy C40, 50 or 60.

What do you think?

Awesome! I'll definitely be watchin' out for the build thread, that thing looks great! I'm tryin' to squint and imagine it down, closer to the ground, with a Hodges bed on it for pickin' up customer hotrods & musclecar projects. Hehe

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!

Here's my 1969 GMC 8500 fire truck, had it about two years now. I didn't need another project, but it was too good to pass up and risk it going to the crusher. I got it from a nearby fire department that was attempting to rebuild it, but decided to look for a newer truck and one that had a higher top speed than 55. It has the factory 478 Magnum V6, 5 speed Spicer transmission and a 7.17 single speed rear. It has about 14,000 miles on it, drives nice and straight and stops on a dime. I had planned on building a winch truck out of it, but decided to build it back into a fire truck. If anything it will be fun to drive in local parades and really handy to have in case a grass fire gets near the property it's stored on lol. I was able to get the original 1200 gallon water tank along with some other equipment, but the rear fenders, running boards, and storage box/monitor nozzle platform above the pump were scrapped years ago. It'll be a Johnny Cash fire truck, I'm building it one piece at a time!

Looks good.

The 8500 is pretty rare.

What is the GVW on it ?

Hi Bill, it has a 31,000 lb GVW. It has the F090 front axle with 9,000lb springs, and it has auxiliary springs on the rear.

Nice. That means you most likely have 22 Rears. My '67 7500 had 22 Rears.

Does it have Air Brakes ?

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!

Pretty choice old fire truck with the usual low mileage . Only thing wrong with it is the butterfly hood. I think you have too much missing to reconstruct it back into a parade truck .

I just brought home a '83 Brigadier heavy rescue truck with now just over 23000 miles. The significant feature is a 15 KW hydraulically driven generator.

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!

Yes the rear should be rated at 22K, although it's not stamped in the VIN plate and not listed on the option sheet. It does have air brakes, they're Stopmaster wedge brakes. It has some other neat options: engine alarm system, rapid air compressor, moisture ejector valve(for the brake system), two under-hood work lights, and a factory 62 amp alternator with two regulators. One is under the hood and the other is behind the instrument panel, weird setup but it still works like it's supposed to.

I actually like the butterfly hood, looks cool at night when it's open with the work lights on. I'm a welder by trade and I have plenty of material on hand I can use on this truck to build what is missing, not a problem there. These old refinery rigs weren't built like regular pumpers were as far as storage boxes, etc. It didn't carry much equipment other than hose on top of the tank and a few nozzles, valves, and adapters that were mounted to the side of the tank and the running boards. I also have the monitor nozzle, it looks exactly like the one in the picture below. I found this on yngfire.com, the truck is identical other than the vent behind the hood and the one piece windshield which means that truck is an early to mid 1970's model. That '83 sounds like an awesome truck, a hydraulic driven generator was fairly advanced for that time period.

For rear fenders, basement window wrap arounds are available in different heights , and make cheap fenders. Available at Home Depot or Lowes.

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!

......so I'm sittin' on the couch the other night, watching my appx. 1hr. of T.V. for the week and " Ferris Beuller's Day Off " is on (one of the great movies of these modern times, in my humble opinion).
Right after the school principal sneaks into the family home, gets attacked by the dog and then eventually kicked in the face by by a startled Jennifer Grey, he staggers outside and his car is getting towed off. Check out the wrecker handling the tow ......

Yep, those old Fords had great running diesels, thanks to GM. That's a cool one, but I think some people need to read the thread title. We're not hatin' on other stuff, but this thread is for GM models. There is a thread right next to this one for all big trucks. Use that

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!

Here are a couple other c50 trucks that I own. The white one is a one owner 1970 c50 that I bought off a ranch in eastern oregon. It has always been stored in a building. It is super clean with low miles. The green truck is a 68 c50 that I bought for parts.
