Re: 86 Silverado Father and Son project
Alright, mcbassin finished the exhausts, did a great job using scraps from the '01 truck's pipes.
We've been working on making it road worthy... Fuse block mounted. PCM mounted. PCM and fuse block. For the drive shaft, instead if getting it lengthened we used the yoke from the 2001 truck, because it's longer. It's a perfect fit and it gives me almost 2 1/2 inches of yoke in the tranny. '01 on the right, '86 on the left We took it on a four mile test drive and it ran good. On the last mile it got hot, around 220. It turns out you have to pour coolant into the engine via the upper radiator hose the first time you fill it. So I'll do that. Still got a few thing to tidy, but it feels good drive. |

Re: 86 Silverado Father and Son project
Thanks Mark
We filled the water pump with coolant and took her for another drive and WOW big difference. A lot more power, drivability, and really clean shifting. It ran like a champ and the more we drove, the more the PCM learned. There will be vids coming soon. Pretty much completely finished, just need to get a smaller cone air cleaner. |

Re: 86 Silverado Father and Son project
Thanks guys
It's all but finished now...LITERALLY. I'm waiting on my tach to get here, but other than that it's done. Mcbassin custom temp sending unit adapter Mcbassin custom steam vent hose adapter Got my cone air filter in and on Screwed to the bracket and sealed with silicone. We drove to the car wash to clean up the engine bay some, it ran great again. |

Thanks Mark, I couldn't have done it alone...
Thanks. We've put about 60 miles on it so far with no issues and it runs strong. |

Re: 86 Silverado Father and Son project
Thanks Kyle..
I installed a tachometer in the clock spot. It's a cheap ebay tach, like $17, but it works good so far I just had to put it on 4-cylinder mode. It's better than the clock that was completely useless. |

Re: 86 Silverado Father and Son project
Me too, I stole the idea from a few people one the board, you just need any 2" tach. It's real easy, just three wires: tach signal (from PCM), power, and ground.
