I held out for a long bed. Now I just can't wait until I have it roadworthy for spring....

Re: how about some pics of 60-66 long beds

I remember seeing a couple of those 9 foot step sides back when they were new. They were orange and were part of some type of utility fleet. Memory tells me they were 3/4 or 1 ton having very large wheels.

I suppose it could have even been the same truck seen on different occasions. The 9' step bed was certainly unusual and unpopular. I never heard a kind word about their appearance, but they must have been practical for whoever owned them.

With a long bed you get a WHOLE truck not just a shortened version.

My truck is still a work horse. I love the long bed, except when I have to parallel park!

Did Chevy Gmc make a 9' step side like Dodge or International back in the 60's?

They sure did! Here are two pages from a couple of sales brochures I have. From the info I have read it appears that the 9' long step bed was only available on 1 ton models. Someone can correct me if I am mistaken on that. I believe GM also had a 9' step bed available in the '67-'72 model years as well. I'd love to own one! I believe they were rather rare even back in the day. If any members here own one, perhaps they can post photos & more info?

Hope this info helps?

I might do that to mine if I could find a nice long stepper bed.

When I bought the truck it was very clean and looked to be stock. The cab was white and the bed was red with the red and white custom seat. So far I have only painted it. I would like to find out if there is a way to tell if it has been modified. Either way, long beds are cool!

Thanks Vern, sorry for the late reply. I daily drive this truck when I can spring to fall. The truck is an all original from Georgia, was a fleet truck for a shop when new then the guy who used it for work bought it from the company and had it ever since. My uncle picked it up from him and then sold it to me. Big back window and lots of other options, original 283 (rebuilt 2x) with 260,000 miles, factory wood in the bed was saved since he had a shell on the bed, have had some rust spots patched and unfortunately it has been resprayed. My plan this spring is getting a new carb, the original is worn out and a rebuild didnt fix the issues so going to need a new one.
