Re: faux-tina paint jobs
The original, sitting in a field for 15 years! Back then when they looked that bad we saved them with a lot of blood, sweat and beers, don't hate the messenger! 2 way different schools of thought on what to do with a vehicle and they will never see eye to eye! And for the record, the VW crowd started the trend about 20 years ago.

Re: faux-tina paint jobs
My original Patina, but since it is mostly red I am seriously thinking of painting over it and sanding the red through

Looks like that water made it's way to that truck previously huh? Nice stance now though.

Re: faux-tina paint jobs
I drove this 61" Apache from 93-2005, it was a lowered rat/patina truck before it was cool. Early on, the truck would always get dirty looks any time we tried to get into a show or some cruise ins. Some venues would not let my truck in because it "wasn't finished".
Boy, have times changed. Now my old 61" would be way more cool.

Re: faux-tina paint jobs
These are some from the OG paint thread.
I'm thinking these would be easier to replicate for a fauxtina paint job. Just make it very subtle.

Re: faux-tina paint jobs
Dad bought a '66 a few years ago that had killer real patina but needed some areas fixed. I recreated the patina look on the rear bed sill, bed floor edges, door bottoms, and hood edges. We scuffed the whole truck and shot it with flattened clear to bring out the color.

Re: faux-tina paint jobs
Some call this real, which of course it hasn't been faked, but I consider real as the original paint showing its natural wear.
Either way, I like this:

Re: faux-tina paint jobs
Is it considered "faux-tina" if i didn't do it?! My '61 came to me like this and I've discovered at least 3 colors over top of the original, plus the layers of primer from each spray job. The top grey appears to be a non-auto paint that was brushed or rolled on and is very inconsistent. My guess was someone was trying to stop the rust that she has all over. I've rebuilt the engine and cleaned up the engine bay for a small wow factor when the hood is popped, but want the patina/rat rod/survivor look on the exterior.
I'm thinking of attacking her with some sand paper and scotch pads to get something a little more consistent between panels and overall. Any suggestions on if I should try to add paint before, during or after i've knocked down what's there?
