I'd definitely try Eric. He built a very similar setup for his Sedan delivery that ran great.

Working on straightening out years of dents, and dings! It's worth the effort to use some old gm steel though.
 I have the first round of body work done on the left side, and I'm just about done beating on the right side.

Still have a little work to do on the tailgate before I can paint it, but the bed turned out nice.
I'm going to spray the inside of the bed with color matched bedliner.
