Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Just finished this water pump. I brushed it on, meaning I had to do the bottom first and treat the metal twice. Thought for sure the metal prep would leave a mark on the painted backside. This POR15 is bullet proof, didn't leave a mark.

Fun to see real work being done by others. Love the meme "buy a C-10, it will be fun, they said".
Does this qualify for doing something, added Angry Bird eyes.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Thanks , I'm sure you can attest it sure would be nice if all these costly steering and suspension / brake parts came pre painted / coated . I just can't bring myself to bolt it all together raw and then watch it rust up . I'm building these trucks to be driven and still look good down the road , I have plans for the next one as a Sunny Sunday only cruiser

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Met this guy who lives two miles from me that does ceramic, powder, paint, weld, metal fab. etc. etc. His shop is behind his house with a complete set-up and no expense spared. Anyway, he sent these pics. of my manifolds.
The first pic is of the RH manifold down to metal. I found it in complete ignorance early in my education. I was convinced the RH manifold on my truck was a replacement, because the part number wasn't in sequence with the left.........At any rate, GM did make a RH manifold that was in sequence (RH 45, LH 46). Same manifold as the more common 353030, only earlier production. Better shape than my 30, so worked out anyhow......Plus they match

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Had these ceramic coated. Zep suggested that early in my ed. and glad to have done it. Early take off heat stove and nice, but you got to get through the rust. He put an extra coat on it, and as stoves go it has a nice heavy feel.
Just for looks, I always wanted the stove and pipe, but with ceramic this and that, I suspect it won't support a divorce choke. Would really like a divorce choke, learn how they work and that, but the parts were missing when I tore this down anyway. So unless you guys can talk me out of it stove pipe with an elect. choke.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
New steering box. And since the right front tire was off I checked the brakes. Everything is new lines cylinder and linings. Also was able to take off the holder screws with just a screw driver. Absolutely no rust on the drum. Checked the other brakes all the same. Was gone over at sometime before I bought it.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
pulled mine out of the garage to make room to fix something broken during my move then pulled it back in. still leaking badly and seems to be really rich. holly carbs are terrible at sitting and maybe ive let it sit to much the last month while I was getting the new house/move done. I will be back to loving it soon enough.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Yesterday was another beautiful day here in Washington, so I took a cruise, and cleaned her up a bit. I'm starting to use a Go Pro that was given to me for my birthday back in 2013 (practicing for a trip my wife and I are taking to Italy and the Greek Islands in July). Decided to take a walk around video of my truck (that didn't turn out that well), but here it is...

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
I got tired of trying to get my old distributor to run as it should....so I fitted a new HEI unit.
Works perfect and timing curve just as I wanted. Even the Tach still functions as it should. Goes so much beter, now it will spin the tyres if you like, or sit on 70mph with ease. |

Got the slotted mags on. The wheels are a whole story unto itself, ever since I got them for the previous '69.

Pulled the trigger and finally ordered all of the fuel and trans lines for my project from Summit. It's been in my cart for a month now. Don't want to rush in to these things.

Toasted my trans in the 72 yesterday. Dont really know what happened. She started chattering on take off then before I got to my place chattered at all shifts. Pulled the pan and it's full of metal. Going to the shop as soon as I replace the trans cooler lines on my 3500 CTD. been putting it off but its leaking real good now.
