This is the rest of that picture, if anyone noticed the hitch and safety chains on the back of the '38. 2013 Retro, "canned ham" style camping trailer. We've traveled to Des Moines for Goodguys, Springfield MO for an NSRA show and Pigeon Forge, TN for the Shades of the Past show. I built the hitch and wired the car with the 7 way RV power cord.

Today the Grandson and I tore/dismantled the engine run stand to bare-bones as to get it to the powder coater. It was a good morning spent together, plus he likes the car/truck culture and helping his Papa work on them.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Went to an auction Saturday at an old Chevrolet/Olds dealer in Scottsburg IN that had been closed for quite some time. There were tons of NOS parts from the 50s - 80's, as well as equipment, tools, etc. They were selling the NOS parts in huge bundles of hundreds or thousands at a time for dirt cheap.

Not too many truck parts, but I did come home with a cool 72 truck first aid kit as well as a 68 truck data book and a 71 truck data book.

Flattening a rough sawn white oak slab that I milled a few years ago with my chainsaw mill. I usually bring them to a friend but his big drum sander is broken . Had to do it old school . This is going in where I took out the old range top.

My next project is to make a sled planer for my router .

That's a mighty fine surface, for using a belt sander!

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

If you have never changed a battery in a 2020 Tahoe (I'm sure a few other models too) your in for a real treat.

The wife's original factory battery finally gave up the ghost the other day so I found out the task of changing it is no longer a simple operation lol. You have to completely remove the air cleaner housing then loosen and slide the coolant overflow tank forward to have room to get it out.

It has a positive and ground distribution block that straddles the top of the battery with 5 cables attached, all of that plus a brace over the battery.

Nothing overly difficult it's just not a 15 minute job anymore.

Did you have to do something to maintain power to the computers while you disconnected the battery? I think some vehicles require it.

From what I know/experienced it's only if you want to save all the programing you did to the radio, A/C/Heat etc ...the wife took care of that after the fact.

I did watch a youtube video (hoping for a shortcut) which showed turning the battery on its side for removal without taking everything else apart (coolant/air box) but it did not work for me as I was afraid of snapping the plastic mounting tabs on the coolant tank off, then we have another problem.

On that distribution panel/busbar that sits on top of the battery it has a blue multi-wire connector it feeds that appears to power the computer, you can leave that connected as I did, and I suppose connect remote 12 volts to it but it would be right in the way of what your trying to do IMHO.

My 2011 Silverado has a brace right over it too, that has to be removed. I don't need to move anything else though, but I did use a jump pack on the bus bar and negative to the engine block to maintain all presets, as I wouldn't have a clue how to get all that crap running the same way again.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

There's a gizmo one can buy at the parts store that uses a 9 volt battery, and plugs into the electrical system. It has enough energy to keep the memory alive until the battery is switched out. I have my batteries tested when they've been in our vehicles for awhile, just to see where they are at. I'd rather replace a battery early than have my wife stranded someplace because I wanted to squeeze the last electron out of a battery. These days, batteries do not fail gracefully. Used to be you could tell, when the engine started cranking over a bit slower. Now, you drive someplace and come out to a failed battery. Come to think of it, it's time to go through the rotation with our vehicles having the batteries tested.

Exactly what happened! Once that computer drops below 10.5 volts or so it shuts it all down, couldn't start it even if cranked slowly.

After many months of my bike sitting in pieces, I got it back together. I installed some silicon coolant lines to replace the 26 year old rubber ones. The body work needs to be installed still. Now I just wish I could ride it

No probably not. I have a health condition that makes it very difficult to ride the bike. I only get to start it up and listen to it.

Massive power outage?
Who cares.
Tested the ol' lawnmower generator and it's fine.
I have a spare Chevy alternator charging two spare car batteries in here with a pure sine wave inverter to keep the ice cream frozen and the wifi on so I'm all set.
